I have polished my tunnel on my viper to a chrome like finish and was wondering what I could do to keep it looking nice? Would Clear Coat work or just wear off? What have you guys done?

Only thing I can think of that would hold to your feet rubbing on it is clear adhesive back vinyl thats mostly used on dirt bike and quads. Factory Effex makes clear grip tape which come in 12"X18" sheets which go for about $18 per sheet but they also make clear smooth texture which go for about $15 for 3 sheets the same size as the grip tape style.

I used Glisten PC by POR15. Link
This is exactly what it is for. Unfortunately it isn't working out. It is starting to peel off of the tunnel. :(

Dont Use Clear Coat !!

I would not use clear coat

I used it on different areas of the motor housing & stuff a few years back,
looked good for a few months & then started to show dulling & cracking :o| :o|

Of course, JMHO based on experience!!

clear coat

it's peeling off because its not free of all the wax you have on it. you need to polish and then wipe off with a product that is used after body work , and before paint . i think its called "Tordal" . its super powerful . it strips all wax residue off the surface and preps . for paint. do this , and apply with numerous thin coats of clear and you will have a nice durable finish .

Did you go with the gloss or semi-gloss? I think I may give this a try before next season. Did you clean the polished area with a thinner or mineral spirits befor applying the sealer?

I used brake cleaner first and then mineral spirits before applying. It's holding up in some areas, so it's possible I didn't get it clean enough.. The polishing compound does embed itself into the aluminum pretty good.

When you polish the tunnel it dosen't give the paint anything to "bite" into. Heck even aluminum wheels that are clearcoated peel. Paint (clearcoat) needs little scratches to stick to.

Although I haven't polished the tunnel on my SRX, I did my Polaris and used paste wax after polishing. Applied two coats and buffed until the rag was clean. This worked for a whole season and still works well with the polished pipes and other misc under the hood of my SRX.

Rinsing off road salt dust regularly and a covered trailer helps too.
