Chain case vent?

There's a barbed nipple on the top front of my Phazer chain case. I am assuming that it is a vent? Is there supposed to be a hose attached to it? Do I have to worry about chain lube coming out of it?

You can attach a hose to it if you like and run it down into the belly, but it is not nessasary.

There is a baffle in the case to keep the oil from coming out, the nipple pointed down was just to keep things from going in the hole.
