Hey TYers,

Can anyone post some pixs of how the hoses on the carbs are run and hooked up on first gen 570 exciters? Mine is '87, bought from idiot friend that pulled off hoses and doesn't remember how they went. most appear correct, but the bigger black ones are off.

Also, anyone have the brass cable adjustment parts where the enricher (choke) cable meets a carb (and whatever might be under the brass that make up a carb's enriching circuit. He pulled it off and lost them. I'll take a whole carb if you have it.

Thanks and please e-mail me pix/info at siudog33@hotmail.com or call 815 690-9182

What carbs ar on it. Mine had the round slides put on by Yamaha. but I think some still have the butterfly carbs on them.

I hope you are not in school at SIU. I went there about 17 years ago.

Are the bigger black ones you are refering to connected to the cooling system? I.E.- running antifreeze? Sounds like they may be 88 and up carbs. Are the two carbs braced to gether or seperate?

87 exciters used butterfly rack carbs, 88 and up used the roundslides, that were not bolted together by a rack, 93 SX used a 38mm flatslide rack setup same as vmax 600 twins. although the jetting was set up different than the vmax twins.

Exciter

Correct - The 87's came stock with buterfly carbs. The update was to install round slide carbs. By the way you are discribing the choke plunger it may be a round slide. The part is brass and connects to the cable and is inserted into the carb then the cable / nut is screwed into the body. What hoses are you refering to ? You have fuel and a pulse line going to the fuel pump. The oil lines go from the oil pump to the fuel pump. The rest are vent lines from the sides of the carbs.

Thanks for everyone getting back on this. I still have the issue. I had a brand new '88 Exciter and although I don't remember details, I do remember that only the '87 had "Exciter L/C" on the side covers. I'm assuming it is an '87, friend says '89. It has tunnel & engine # starting "82-M" If that helps.

The carbs are Mikuni slides, and do not appear connected by a rack. The look completely individual though some of the small clearish overflow and vent hoses are joining the carbs. Although I'm looking for pix of all the hoses, I'm really trying to figure out the 3/8" OD black hoses. The come out the clutch side of each carb near the top and rear. On the other side top and rear there are also 2 brass barbs pointing up, nut the barbs are too big for any of the hoses.

Again, any pix that you can send to me at siudog33@hotmail.com would be appreciated.

82m is a 87,what you are describing is the coolant lines, exciter carbs had water cooled carbs to keep them from icing up, you dont need to hook them up. but you need to make sure the shut off valve where they were hooked to is turned closed. i believe they were hooked to the cock assembly that came from a hose off the water pump.you will see a line coming from the top of the water pump with a petcock.

If it's an 87' and it has the 88' update kit on it, they didn't hook up the coolant lines, you will just have 2 empty brass barbs on each carb. If you want to hook them up, all you do is loop them through the water pump vent line. There's a black line that goes from the top of your water pump to the head under the thermostat housing. Disconnect it, hook it to the rh carb, loop the rh to the lh carb, then the lh carb back to the head, there is supposed to be a a shut off between the water pump and the rh carb, Confused now?

The other problem you will have is adjusting the oil pump cable, on an 87 with 88 carbs, you can't use the 87 or 88 spec, what you do is hold the throttle wide open and adjust the oil cable just so there is a little play in it.

so this '87 must have had the upgraded carbs. I'll just delete the hoses and antifreeze thing. I never needed it on my '88 anyway. However, I'd still like to see some pics if someone has them to now figure out the small hoses. Thanks to all on this.
