in a '00 srx chaincase, there is 2 spacers. one behind each gear. I need to know if the thicker one goes on top or bottom? I think it goes on the top. I also need to know which way the bottom gear goes. I tried to look at the teeth faces to see which side had the most wear, but there doesn't appear to be any difference either way. the bottom gear has a flange/boss that sticks out. does that face the chaincase cover or track? I think it faces the cover. If I put the bottom gear on so the flange faces the cover and have the thinner spacer behind the gear, with the thicker spacer on the top, behind that gear, it seems to track straight. I tried to look in the manual, but I can't really tell much about the spacers in the exploded drawings. It looks like the exploded drawing shows the flange on the bottom gear facing the track, but when i put it on like that the chain doesn't ride straight and the chain seems to stick out a little past the chaincase housing. anyone know for sure how this stuff goes in here. had it apart to long and now I don't remember.

thick spacer on top, thin on bottom . put the bottom gear the way it tracked straight. just check it with a straight edge across both gears . the way you had it was right.
Like this
Thick spacer on top, thin one on bottom.....as stated correctly above. The shoulder on the bottom gear goes toward the track.

Tony.....I've been wrong before....plenty of times!!! Mopar will figure it out after he reads all of this!!! LOL!
Met a few TY'ers at Lanzis this past weekend. It's nice to put a face with a name. When are you coming out to Lanzis? Maybe I'll have to come meet up with you at Oneida or Big Moose I know they are much closer for you. Would love to meet you and run my SRX against yours. I'm sure we could have a great tuning day together.

I didn't say if it looked straight it was correct! i said if the spacers are in the right spot thick on top, thin on bottom a straight edge can confirm if the bottom gear is on the right way!

i double checked and the spacers are in the right place and the gears are on correct. the chain still rides on a angle. the chain sticks out of the chaincase housing like 3/16" on the bottom and on the top, its in like 1/16"-1/8". so the chain is riding on like a 1/4" angle. what the heck? I even loosened the 2 set screws on the driveaxle bearing on the clutch side, thinking maybe it would let the shaft come over a little. I don't know whats wrong. I might flip the spacers around, even though they aren't suppose to be, but at least the chain might ride straight. anyone with any more thoughts?

found the prob. idiot who put the new track on, never put the retaining ring back in, that holds the bottom bearing into the housing. now that would be whats making the gear walk out. I tell ya guys, some people shouldn't be allowed to own tools. you should have to take a test when you walk into your local sears....lol.
