I was screwing in my new 45 pilots (42.5 to 45), and I bent one of those bad boys over, Aarrgghh. They just don't fit. I had adjusted my fuel screws back to stock setting before I changed them and that's all I'd done before trying to put these in. Why wouldn't they fit? I'm still a novice in carb tuning, and wondering what I did wrong. I wasn't reafing on them either, before the tube around the 42.5's was snugly fit, so I know something's obstructing the path. Thanks, Drew.

They go in real easy. I've done this many times any they never even attempt to cross thread.

Are they the proper pilots?

They're the same thread, same size overall. Just larger throat due to the larger size. I made sure over and over again from the dealer that they were to be the right ones. I'm just bewildered at this point. They're not cross threading, the tip is hitting on something. But since they're the same length, the diameter of the 45's are catching on something.

Clean the carbs real good, must have gunk up there. nothing for them to hit. Maxdlx I may have a 45 I can send you. I will check tomorow. Maxdlx

Thanks, I'll just get another at the Yamaha dealership tomorrow. It's just frustrating because you guys are telling me they're dirty, and they may be (even after much cleaning at the end of last season and the beginning of this one), but when I screw them in, there's a little over an eighth of an in from seating all the way in. It does this on all three. I'm going to keep cleaning and checking it out. Thanks for the help, Drew.

We had something like this happen except it was with the main jets on a vector. We got the mains for a 2-stroke and not for the keihn carbs on the vector. Did exactly the same thing. Would get all the way but 1/8 of an inch. Looked almost exactly the same. Just a thought.

I'll be back to my dealer to have another chat. I hope that's all it is. Everything measured up, but obviously something doesn't fit right. Thanks for you're help.

Put them up to your old pilots. They should be the exact same length, diameter. Everything on the outer dimensions should be identical. Only the inner hole diameter is bigger. They probably sold you the wrong ones.

Like I said though when we look at the mains for the keihn vector carbs they looked identical to the eye. Different part # though and that was the problem. Most dealers that we checked at didn't even know that they changed the design in them or that they were a different part #.

Turns out they were for the Keihn carbs. I've got the correct 45's on the way. Dealer gave me my refund and is paying for my new ones. So a little mistake turned into a deal for me. Thanks for the help, Drew.
