went riding out to the black hills this weekend. ran into a guy that just so happenee to be test riding a prototype nytro for yamaha. also had a regular production apex ltx. he told me to take the apex for a spin but said hecan't let know one ride the prototype for some reason. the nytro even had the sticker on the tunnel that said that it was an official sample prototype so he wasn't bullshitting me, i should have taken a pic. kinda makes a guy curious of whats coming out in 09.

when the guy was riding the nytro it looked like it ripped real good. just to add it was the same chassis of the production nytro.

while i was riding the apex ltx. there was only one thing i didn't like, engine braking. other than that the sled is perfect. good suspension in the bumps.

:yam:

Hey jr_amsoil thats funny i got to put on about 25 miles on a Attack this year and that was the only thing i didn't like, everything else i liked. A buddy of mine rides a RX1 and it has the engine braking also. He said that you get use to it fast, he feathers the thottle when he lets off. Thats cool about the Nitro i wish you would have taken a picture

Once you guys get used to the engine braking you can greatly use it to your advantage, and just adds one more element of control to the sled. You hardly ever have you use the disk brake, and midcorner corrections are much easier. I never understood all the people that don't like the engine braking.

What TopGunnSrx said...Also I heard that after the sled is completely broke in the engine braking isn't as bad. When I first test rode the Apex in 2006 I almost went over the handle bars when I let off of the throttle. Those four-strokes are a whole different animal.

For me I just had to treat it like a sportbike, and the engine braking "issue" went away.

Yeah, it is a different feeling after all the years of 2 stroke sled riding.

I agree, it don't mean much until they make it but it's still pretty cool nonetheless. I'm still curious if we'll see a new Apex this year. I think we will but I see many others think Yamaha will make a 100 HP sled this year and wait until 2010 to make a new Apex. I don't see that happening but you never know?

When I had seen the yamaha boys up here, they had a couple of mean sounding machines with all the coverings (sounding like the apex) cruising around. Followed them for a couple of miles, they didn't really want to be followed I'm thinking, LOL.

ya the never really showed the sled off to us. and didn't saymuch about it other than hp. he said when he gets done riding it it has to go back to japan. exhaust sounded more like a nytro.

you get used to the engine braking once you ride for a while - it takes a few hundred miles, but my last few rides i didnt even notice it.

engine braking

just bought an 05 rx-1. dont really notice the engine braking that much, but this had a holztman clutch kit installed. i did see on ebay that a guy is selling a different clutch spring that is supposed to eliminate the engine braking. if anyone tries it, let us know.

does the mountain sleds have the engine braking as well. i don't think that it would work very well if you were riding in real deep powder. trail riding it would work real good.

Yah, they really don't like that when they have prototype sleds, or so I have noticed as well.

You know of all the prototype machines (cars, bikes, sleds, whatever) I have seen, the only test riders of not yet released product that were happy to talk about the prototype were the guys with Mercury Marine that had test mule PWC's. I saw them a few times throughout that summer, but they were looking at joining the market way too late, and never made consumer models.

back to the new sled that was being tested, Since it was a Nytro, can they even fit a 4 cylinder motor in there?? I wouldnt think so, and that it would have to be a 3 cylinder of some sort.
