Hey guys I just got my 99 srx put back together with new rings and thought i would be good, but it turns out it not firing on number 3. I can tell buy from touching the pipes. I have tried a few different plugs all the same thing. When i remove the plug, it is wet but when i test for spark theres spark. I seen this post

And i'm wondering if this could be my problem or
http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=46060&highlight=firing
Because when i run it on the stand it only revs to about 7400 rpm. oh and compression is the same in all 3. I guess i will start with the clean out, bummer because i just cleaned the carbs and got to remove them again.

Remove the plug from #3 and start the engine for a brief time at idle. This will blow any extra fuel out of that cylinder. Will minimize wet fouling.
Look closely at the coil wire plug in connectors. They will look like they are together correctly but, won't connect all the time. I looked for this same problem on mine since mid last season and finally found it when the wire connector came apart. Some times it would run fine, some times on two cylinders and sometimes miss under load. Use two needle nosed pliers and make sure the little round connectors snap all the way together.
Just something to check.
Good luck.

Thanks iahacker i will try this tonight.
Just to give some history on the sled at the end of last year i let a buddie drive the sled and he noticed there was somthing wrong and he said that it was ok at about half throttle. Once we got to our destination i swapped plugs no change so i limped it home. The next day i started looking around the engine and noticed on the number 3 cylinder i had a crack in the gas line so i fixed it and the issue was still there. Now this is where i made a huge mistake. I thought i took out a piston with the amount of kms i had so i removed the top end but did not do a compression check because i did not have a tester. When i did all was fine except for a pulled through power valve. I got it fixed from another member on her Modsrx ( Thank-you again ) and thought that was my issue. I installed new rings and put every back to gether. I cleaned the carbs and when i went to fire it up, i pulled and pulled finally because it wouldn't start i poured gas down the cylinders to get it to fire, after about 5 times it finally filled the carbs and started to run on it own. The idle sounds perfect.

tonight i started with trying another spark plug cap and another spark plug and warmed it up good and i could feel the pipe was a little bit hotter than last night, so i brought it out of the grage and it ran like crap so i took it back into the garge and i checked the compression one more time to make sure and it the same on all three. I noticed the plug wasn't as wet, then i took the air box off thinking i might have ate a reed and i started it up to see if the carb was puping and it seemed to run alot better the rpms are coming up alot faster and when i feel the pipe it is way hotter than it was but not as hot as the others still, but i only ran it with out the airbox for about 40 seconds. This has got me baffeled. do you guys think its was really flooded and now its cleaning it slef out? Removing the airbox was the only difference. Its hard to swing the sled around by yourself in a popup garage, the first time took all my energy so i won't be able to really test until tomorrow night.
is that the SRX you want me to race??? lol sorry, couldn't resist.
How you doing getting the ported one dialed in? Haven't seen any posts with #s yet? Guessed i would have by now cause you live right on the bay...

LOL. They radared one day 2 weeks ago and i missed it, I went down the track it and it was bumpy not like last year. Its very strong i love it, it pretty close to be dialed in its hard with the conidtions we been having in the power or loose snow i only see 8000rpm but when its hard packed and i get traction she bang all the way to 8500 and hang on
I almost forgot, i'm just shy of 2000kms so far this year with it

hey hope it all works out for you..i had the same problem with my srx this year..my magneto cylinder would never get hot, turns out i have 40lbs less compression on that cylinder and i needed a new one..should run find now i hope lol
I checked the compression 2 times now. The cylinder in question has about 3 pounds more than the 2 that are running. I will now better tonight after i test it again. It did seem to be running better after i took the airbox off. But i know that not my solution. What i think now is that the cylinder was really flooded and has burnt all the gas that was in there. We will see tonight
it possible that its been really flood ... doesnt happend often..make sure you have a good spark on that plug ..and make sure you set the pilot screw at the right place...did u check the pilot jet in your carb ???
do u have any spare piston in that garage for sale lolllll
Well i went back at it again tonight in search for the reason why, and i think i have found my problem. It ate a reed pedal. Now should i be nervous that it went into the crank? all my symtoms that i have described in this post does it sound like this is the problem i ahve been having? Heres some pics. Oh and they are v-force 2's

take off that pipe and see if theres chunks in there. You can also see in the case now that you have the reed block out, shine a light and use a mirror to see in case, most of the times they go out the pipe and dont hurt anything.
