I was riding my viper two weekends ago and had some trouble. I was going down a straight stretch about half throttle because she had been running really shady all day. Suddenly I start to hear metal on metal so I start to slow down and the motor stops abruptly. It didn't seize completely it just stopped quickly if that makes sense. I finally got the engine out and tore it down in my buddies kitchen. The right cylinder had two pieces of ring welded to the cylinder wall which made a groove in the piston like you wouldn't believe. The other two cylinders are spotless. Also the inside of the cylinder head on that cylinder looks brand new, like really clean. The others look like they have 7000 miles on them, burnt black but very healthy. I figure the heat must have nuked the dome and cleaned it right off. I have no idea right now what happened to cause all of this but I do know I am need of a major rebuild. I might need a crankshaft too. It seems like the connecting rod on the bad cylinder has a lot of play on the crankshaft, not good. I need some opinions on what might have caused this and what I am in for with this rebuild, maybe some pointers. thanks
