I am new to Yamahas, I bought a 1998 700 SX from a buddy of mine. It is converted to a mountain sled. Very nice rig..... it has 3800 miles. Do I need to worry about any rebuild soon on this motor?? Are the crank bearing open or closed type? I hope open to get injection oil. I have a Mxz 700 and redid the crank at 6300 miles and outer closed bearings were just about shot. I got lucky. Just wondering what I am looking at down the rode. This sled won't get many miles each year because of it being a mountain sled. thanks for the info.

These's ain't no ski-poo crap,, yammies are very reliable, yes bearings are open to allow oil in..

yamaha triples will go a loooog way with out needing rebuilt,BUT......to keep
performance tip top and efficient and to prevent any unforeseen problems one should do a top end(rings and replace pistons IF under spec)every
4-5,000 miles or so, cheap insurance for preventing costly down time later.

and :wel: to TY!!!!!

I agree with daman (like usual) You should have no concernes with 3800 miles if it's been taken care of. I just turned 4250miles on my 700 last weekend in MI...come summer I'll pull the top end and freshen up and Mic everything out just to make sure!
You'll be very happy with that sled!

Ok ,thanks. I will do a compression test on each cylinder and see what it is. What should it be?? High end and low end? thanks.

Hi, yeh it has been taken care of VERY well. He's s good friend of mine and i trust him. He takes it to this Yamaha Guru that does testing for yamaha and he does all the work on it. It is dialed in. thanks!

Stock around 120ish,,more importaint tho is that there all within each other, 10% or so..

I had over 7000 miles on one of these motors. I went into it because I over heated it badly. I thought I should go into it to see how much damage occured. The cylinders, pistons rods bearings. Everyting was good. I did the rings and bearings just cause I was in there.

BTW...I had SLP pipes on this one for many miles.

We have 2 of them. The one turned over 7300 the other day. Motor has been apart yet but I'm going to take it apart and do rings and check it all out this summer. Good sleds. I love my SX 700 triple to death.
