trying to clutch my 98 srx mountain.....its the 700 new pistons rings etc, ported trail port by mr viper 700....sled will only pull to 8200 on the hard pack.....i have www primary with 8bu's with 4.5 gram in tip and stock rollers, running silver sec with wrap at 90 and a hauck 49-41....i pin it and it pulls to 8000 or so then tops out at 8200....mr viper recommend that rpms be at 8500...carbs cleaned, powervalves cleaned and adjusted all cables checked and no pull throughs...i have 4 years or so on the springs will changing them help to bring up the rpms...if i set the sec higher wrap the rpms go up a bit tried checking clutches bushings new belt etc....let me know what you guys think

Lighten the tip & back off the secondary to 60 wrap. try a .8 in the tip. It should easily pull that original clutching tho.

ya thats what i was thinking....anything else to check???? i checked c to c and deflection and clutch offset....sled runs good pulls good just can't get the rpms up...isn't a 4.5 gram in tip to a .8 gram rivit quite a bit difference...i'm only short a couple hundred rpms....maybe im not understanding this right dunno???

would weak springs make a difference there like 8000 kms on these springs so thats the only place i could think

a w/w/w spring is soft, 45/119kg, therefore it upshifts faster. When you use a soft spring you wont be able to pull as much weight in the arms, this is not a bad thing.

theres differnt ways to clutch sleds, some use big spring and youll run more weight in the arms, or you can run softer springs and less weight, it all comes down to testing to see which combo gives you the fastest sled.

Turks reccomendations are the same as mine, although, I would get rid of the silver sec and go to a green if it were mine.

you can also go down in steps, grind off some of the rivets head to reduce weight, drill a small hole thru it to reduce weight. This is where a digital gram scale comes into play.

so drop from the 4.5 gram tips to what??? the .8 gram rivit??....other then the clutching issues sled pulls awesome....raced a 1000 cc t-cat....dead even and a 06 attack was 2 or so lengths behind....so im impressed...wait till i get the clutch set up right should be runnin close to the attack

or dont change anything with the weights and put in a yamaha green /white /green, it will be right on 8500rpm, but youll still need to lose the silver secondary and go to a green.

ok perfect ill do some more tinkering and see what i can do....did notice the spring has 2 shims under it on the primary

I ran 8bu,s in my 98 MSRX with a lift & cut port job. It pulled a lot more clutching then that. I prefer to run soft spring light primary weights on real rock hard snow conditions

come to think of it seems like every year the rpms are less and less....like you guys said should easily pull that clutching....and with that many kms on them....gonna try a new www and new silver cuz i have some here and see what happens then tinker from there.....sled pulled good to peak rpms when i first got it but that was like 4 years ago lol....

found the problem turned out to be a pulled valve....checked them a week a go and they were all good all adjusted....now find one pulled....what causes this???

well got my valve all fixed up got the tip welded with a tig and remachined the hole and slot for the cable...reinstall everything and adjusted to 2.5 mm....put in 3.1 gram rivits into tip of 8bu's....took her out for a rip pulls to 8500 rpms...secondary set at 80 wrap to get the right rpms...is this setup ok or do i have to change anything...checked the free length of both springs and they measure in specs..sled pulls to the right pretty bad now so see if i can set the suspension to make it work
