SPARK problems?!

I have a 1987 yamaha exciter and it just died on me....Its not the coil its not the cdi....the lights were acting funny before it died....is it the stator??? I am racking my brain here I dont want to have to pull the whole stator off if its a quick fix....Anyone have this?

A repair manual will tell you haw to test the stator and this does not require any removal of major parts. You just have to be able to get at the plug harness from the stator.
