Just noticed that when the clutch slows down & disengages it's making a pretty abrupt poping or snapping noise. Never noticed it before & it doesn't do it everytime. Never noticed it before...any ideas?

X2.Check your cover bushing, most likely to be the cause.

Does anyone have an exploded view (Daman??) & how to fix it. Is it a slow death or can I run it for a while.

You can find the exploded view by going to yamaha's webpage and looking up the parts diagram for your sled in the parts and service section. It is not a very hard job to do at all. Could be done in 15-20 mins if you have the new bushing.

There are 2 bushings right? 1 in the primary cap & 1 in the sliding sheave?
Do you think it's just the cap bushing? I ask because I don't have the tools to completely separate the clutch. I suppose I could do the cap first to just see. Will I need a press to get it in & out or can I rig something with a big vise?...never done it.

take off the belt & clean the shaft with emery cloth. probably rust &/or belt crud build up. common problem.

If you have a puller bolt then you can put the clutch on the bench and remove the 6 bolts holding the cover on.The only thing you need to be careful of is to take the bolts out evenly so the cover doesn't get cocked off sideways and try to hold the cover down as you take the last bolt or 2 out so the spring doesn't push the cover into your face.Let the tension off the spring by lifting slowly up on the cover and your ready to take the cover somewhere to have the new bushing pressed in.Make sure that the new bushing gets pressed in properly with the right sized press ram so it wont chip or mar the new one. When you go to put the cover back on you will need to put something between the clutch sheaves to hold them open.

It could be as simple as a dirty clutch. I just cleaned mine last week. It was filthy. It was shifting kind of sluggish on my northern Wisconsin ride. It had alot of gunk built up on the center shaft and inside the tower area.
