have a 98 vmax 700 xtc deluxe...never done this before or even really know what to do...isn't there a cable you adjust to see how much oil you are using? , if so what and how do you set it?? Think it is the cable that goes over the airbox...Where are you Damon..lol...Diceman

How's it going Dice?? the 'ol max still turning...lol
here try this hope it helps some...
Do these checks in this order;
1st- set idle to 16- 1,7000 rpm's(@ operating temp)
2nd- set throttle end play to 2mm(adjustment for that is down at the carb rack)
3rd- set oil pump cable free play here and here to 19(richer)to 21(leaner)mm
then set choke anytime to 1.5mm
here try this hope it helps some...

Sorry rusty on my conversion's so i'll let you figure it out..lol
50:1 is good ratio to shoot for, so with 12 gals(what your sled holds) you
should use only 31oz's of oil(1 qt = 32 oz.),,about 90-95% of a Qt..

Just for future reference bro, the throttle free play should always be set before the idle is set. Otherwise a tight throttle can bias the idle measurement, and the screw won't even affect it. Free play needs to be set first.

Nope.....all my FSM's say in that orderyamaholic22 said:Just for future reference bro, the throttle free play should always be set before the idle is set. Otherwise a tight throttle can bias the idle measurement, and the screw won't even affect it. Free play needs to be set first.
if you set tfp first it'll throw tfp off when you set idle(moves the throttle shaft throws off fp in the cable)
idle then TFP...
I believe the adjustment should be 21- 23 mm for the 700 triple, not 19-21.

To help out here. My old 97 700 sx manual states 20mm +/- 1mm. The service manuals show 98 and up at the 23. So listen to the guys who know what they are talking about. I am sure Daman checked after you ?ed him the first time. Maxdlx
