I am looking for info for my SS440. I know that it feels pretty fast (50 hp) but if fitted with SRX carbs and SRX pipes and clutched right will it be able to hold up and compete with other liquid 440's from polaris, ski doo and cat on a cross country vintage race event?????

the carbs would prolly work good, the pipes will kill it, because your ss motor is ported to make power up to 7000 rpm, your srx pipes are going to make a difference above that. My brother put an extra set of srx pipes on his 440 exciter and it was much slower. If you could raise the ports on the heads and clutch it up to 5000 rpm those pipes might do something, till the motor came apart...one way to find out i guess...

This may sound crazy but the other day I decided to play around in the shop and throw a motor into this 89 indy I had with a bad 500 liquid in it. I grabbed a 433 yamaha motor. installed a pair of 34 carbs and mounted Hauk viper pipes on it (just 2 of course). You wouldn't beleive it but this thing really moves. It is a little low on power on take off but once the mid range kicks in hang on!!
