When I bought my sled brand new (02 srx ) my dcs light would go off if I held it on the lake. Dealer told me it was octane of fuel I was running. After exhuasting that theory it went to the dealer to check dcs system. No problem found. Even tried a new sensor, jetted fatter, looked for things that would vibrate & cause it. never fixed problem untill I bought a used bender silencer, problem Gone!! holding in too much heat is all we could come up with ?? anybody else have any suggestions??

Maybe there was some kind of a blockage in your stock silencer, I don't know why, but freak things do happen. How are you jetted now (mains) and can you hold the throttle to the bar as long as you want without the dcs going off? What kind of bender silencer is it? The trail model? (If there are more)

Thanks

I dont know what silencer it is .I bought it used! I can now hold it forever W/o light coming on. mains are back to stock. How did you water proof your srx? mine hates water!!

Oh i was just trying to get it To The Top for him,he posted that his dcs was comng on and he was wondering if it was the bender can causing it so i poiinted out that someone YOU had the opposite result wiith a bender can, stopping the light from coming on, Hope you dont mind.

Do you have a picture of it? My srx is sealed where the water enters. In the clutch side of bellypan mostly.

Mr Viper, Turk , Anyone have any thoughts on this??

The DCS argument has been beat to death, it actually is the octane rating of the gas you use, the better the grade or motor octane the light will NOT come on. Now some will argue they are running premium fuel but the 02 is jetted the same as the 2000's. The 2000's were known to seize pistons when cold out, they were set up lean for more power. Yamaha used the dcs on the02's to protect the engine when it became lean. The problem still arises from the quality of the fuel, run a higher motor octane gas and the light will not shine. I will personally guarantee you that if you add 2 gallons of race fuel(something like 108-110octane) to your tank with the premium fuel, with the stock 02 jetting, your light will not come on. I have built alot of 780 big bore 02 srx's and the people dont have thel ight problems, you just have to match the fuel to the engine, they truely need a real 93-94 octane.

The otherway to solve it, if you cant run premium fuel is to jet the sled up, if you go to a larger (richer) needle setting, and mains it will keep the light off. Because your coooling the piston with excess fuel, not really the best thing always in every case but you gotta do what you gotta do for the quality of fuel thats available to you.

The DCS light simply means you have detonation occuring inside the engine, detonation comes from octane rating too low for the cranking pressure, the squish clearance, load applied to engine(clutching,or conditions-wet heavy snow)and the ign. timing.

'06 Mountain Viper DCS trouble.

Hi there,
I Just bought an '06 Viper Mountain. I took it for the first ride yesterday and just turned over 800 miles on the odometer. I do not know the sled other than it has a S/S can of some sort on it (brand ?) and some one must have
played with clutching as it will rev 9000+ rpm if I am not carefull and not come back down. With a new tank of gas yesterday, it was good for the first 50 miles but after that the DCS light came on constantly. It did not matter if I was at 7000 RPM of at 9000. On the throttle and the DCS would come on, when I let off, it would be OK again .......untill I hit the throttle again hard.

I have a second Viper at the house and could try a stock can if it might help.
I guess now that you have a bit of history, what I am wanting to know is how should I clutch this sled for flat land @ 1600 ft elevation? I also would like to go up a bit in gearing. Any suggestions? Any ideas on The DCS issues at the end of the day but not at the start?

Thanks in Advance.
