I think I need to adjust my oil cable to use less oil my 2002 Viper uses 1 quart of oil to approximately 110 miles. I just cleaned my new power valves after 300 miles and they were terribly gummed up. I want to check the adjustment do you pull the cable out and measure the gap with calipers at the adjustment part of the cable? I think the adjustment gap is 20.5mm but just not sure where to measure from, if the gap is 20.5 going to 21.5 gap would do what use less oil by increasing the gap I'm not sure on this, I would not want to lean it out to much although Oil is 29.00 a gallon for Amsoil interceptor and power valves was pretty gummed up after 300 miles. Any info or suggestions would help, Thanks Yammi Nut
You are correct on how to check the cable, simply pull it apart gently untill it stops and measure the gap from the end of the lower housing to bottom of the adjustment barrel. You will increase the gap to lean the oil ratio and obviously close the gap to richen. I dont recall the specs, but you are not all that far out being a quart every 110. The Vipers where a little more oil thirsty vs the SRX triples, you can safely set it at the factory min or max spec and not worry about it.Yammi Nut said:I think I need to adjust my oil cable to use less oil my 2002 Viper uses 1 quart of oil to approximately 110 miles. Mine sips oil. I almost feel I should go the other way........wondering if I have enough oil....???
I switched to Amsoil Interceptor after my first tank of Yamalube. Ran about 400 miles when the oil light came on. From the change to Interceptor, with nothing adjusted, I routinely got 175 miles to the quart. Powervalves were pulled at the end of each season. Sprayed with carb cleaner and wiped down, reinstalled. I think you are to fat with your setting. When I put new pistons and rings in at 9500, the inside of my motor was spotless. Hope this helped you.

Hmmm..thought i posted on this already..lol,,anyway...
yup thats right,,but you may as well do it all wile your at it...here's how .Yammi Nut said:I want to check the adjustment do you pull the cable out and measure the gap with calipers at the adjustment part of the cable?
right it would usee less...Yammi Nut said:if the gap is 20.5 going to 21.5 gap would do what use less oil by increasing the gap
I thought stock on a viper was 23.5 so if you are at 20 you are way rich. I always got 170 to 180 miles to the quart.
I was wrong stock is 20.5. I was at 23.5. Go in small increments like Daman said 1mm at a time. Maxdlx

oil consumption
Thanks for the replies everyone I am going to adjust to factory specs and try it taking it on a trip next week and will monitor consumption. Great site and great help from everyone. Yammi Nut

Never paid any attention. There was days I'd fill up twice with gas, maybe 3 times, and only add less than a quart of oil. I was only getting 5 to 6 mpg with the pipes. Even then it never changed. thing is if you do alot of WOT running it is at max flow anyways. the gap only affects the mid to low end. Maxdlx
