A friend of mine was cruisin' down the trail. Rpm went up and the thump thump thump sound of a broken belt. Stopped and opened the cover to find the primary clutch laying in the belly pan. 95 Vmax 600. Snapped the crank clean off. No vibration or anything. Common? Never heard of it.

I didn't see it personally but he said the bolt is still in the clutch and the stub of the crank is still in the primary. He said it broke clean off at the case.

:dunno: I ask him if it vibrated or had any strange noises and he said no. Just knowing that the big twins are hard on clutches makes a guy wonder sometimes.

I have!! Happened to my Dad's 1995 Vmax several years ago. Also happened to his 1991 Exciter II. Yamaha covered both through our dealer. Keep in mind that was when those sleds were more current though. One thing we learned was to take the clutches off with a puller and a socket wrench......not an air ratchet. Also we now torque our clutches on by Yamaha's recommendations.
Torque to 80 ft. lbs. then loosen up and re-torque to 43 ft. lbs.

Never heard or seen it,,all our old iron vm's are going strong..

hey fleetman i see you got your vm on steal-bay wuz up????

Have too many sleds !! :o| I can only ride one at a time. Plus I want to get my Vmax-4 finished for the Lakewood Weenie Roast. :whine:

What a joke that was. Sold at auction. Guy emails me wants to pay cash and pickup tomorrow. I was going to email him back and Fleabay said auction was cancelled. wtf. I watched the bids come in at the last moment. Ended like normal. Here it comes to pass that the guy was using a hacked account to bid. I think the owner of the hacked account got real suspicious when he got a invoice for a grand. Damn. Now all the info and the photos are gone and I need to relist from the get go. Heck with it, I'll keep it. Now I don't know what to bring up there. I only have a one sled trailer.

I have been very lucky there actually. You may be right on the sign. I didn't actually want to sell just kinda need to. I'm not independantly wealthy. You know, need to get parts etc for the next project. Plus raising two teenage kids by myself with no support from the x, mortgage, day job and starting a biz my plate is full! I'm not out anything except time, and they credited my account for every penny involved.
