I am going to purchase a M-10 but I am not sure which shock option to order the Ohlins or the Fox. I am putting this on a 97 700 SX. with a 1 inch track. I dont know if it makes a differance but Iam a heavy rider 270 lbs. Does anyone have a opion on the M-10 Ace. From reading about the M-10 on TY I think it will greatly improve the ride I just dont know what options to get.
Sorry I thought you had a double post and tossed the other one....What are you asking again???

Both shocks will provide a similar ride. The primary differance will come down to durability. The Ohlins will be less prone to fade and the life between rebuilds will be about 2 to 3 times better with the Ohlins.

I had a M-10 in a Vmax-4 and had the Fox Shock, worked very well and was very inexpensive to rebuild, I am a big guy also and loved the M-10 alot. I wish now that I would have kept it when I sold the sled. I think you will be happy with eigther one. I would just see if there is a difference in rebuilding costs., If that is a concern.

M-10
I purchased the M-10 with the FOX shock and it failed within 100 miles. I upgraded to the ohlins and so far no problems. I would spend the extra money.

Historically I have only sold Ohlins & Ryde Fx. The new Fox are supposed to be as good or better that Ryde, but Ohlins is still the most reliable.
you ride them both ohlins then get on a fox, you can tell the difference but you will be so glad to be on a m10 its sometimes hard to tell.

OHLINS ALL THE WAY, THEY SAY NO NEED TO REBUILD AROUND 3000 MILES, PEOPLE DO RIDE DIFFERENT. FOX CLICKERS TO REBUILD IS AROUND 60.00 AND OHLINS ARE USUALLY DOUBLE THAT BUT OHLINS LASTS LONGER. 1200 MILES AND STILL NO FADE ON MINE

I'm not positive but I thought I heard the ACE would not run on the older Yamaha's due to the required power draw??? I may be completely off base but my friend has the M-10 w/ Ohlins in his '98 SRX and I think I remember him telling me that he looked into the ACE and couldn't get one due to the older ignition system on his sled. Someone will have to correct me if I'm wrong. Regardless, you could still get the manual JACK (I think that's what it's called) system to adjust quicker. As far as Ohlins vs Fox, I'd say Ohlins all the way. I loved them on the front of my SRX and my friend really likes his M-10 w/ Ohlins. The Fox shocks on my 96 XCR 600 were always causing me grief - I'd never go back (to Polaris or Fox that is).

Ohlins
I had my ohlins long travels for my pro action rebuilt, and it only cost 91 bucks. Thats parts and return shipping. You really need to look around when getting shock work done. Bruce Shrapveld at B-Line Traction does all of my shock work, he is a very knowlegable, perfectionist, that stands behind his work. Some times bigger is only better, well when taking CC's LOL Maxdlx. PS get the ohlins you will love them, and never second quess yourself.

Several things.
1) FAST no longer offers the ACE
2) As far as I know the ACE is NOT compatable with any newer Yamaha, say 97 to current.
3) If you can afford it the Ohlins has proven to be a very reliable shock and comes witha rear clicker.
The older Fox shocks (oil seals) sucked and I would not sell them. New Fox with the FIST seals have been proven as good or better than the Ryde FX. You'll get simialr performance but ride longer between rebuilds with the Ohlins.
4) The JACK works great and offers FAST, worry-free adjustment from one extreme to the other in less than a minute.
Unfortunately the JACK will not be avail from FAST till about late Dec. But you can add the JACk at anytime.
Hope that helps. Any other questions about the M-10's feel free to call me. I've run one on an SRX for about 3 seasons.
