There was a thread that had some talk of putting clutch parts in the dishwasher to clean them. I feel dumb, but was it serious??? I'm gonna pull the primary for some maintenance & cleaning & wanted to know for sure.

IF it's true, do you break it all the way down or maybe just the cap/spring off & leave the weights & rollers on.

I have the clutch "poping" back into place on deceleration & was told it may just need cleaning & the shaft hit with a scotch brite cloth. I do see some darker spots on the shiny shaft...could that be it? I'll try this first, then go the bushing route if it doesn't work.

Also, is there anything else to do when cleaning the primary?

Yes is was serious. Dish washer works very well. You can break it down or leave it together. It will clean better broken down though.

PS - not sure if your are married or not, but if you are I'm guessing Valentine's Day is probably not the best day to piss her off by putting clutch parts in the DW. Just a thought. ;)

Make sure the dishwasher is a stainless steel unit. Do not use any rinse agent. A dishwasher is smaller version of an aqueas (water base) parts washer. Be very careful on the product you use as it will pit & corrode the aluminum.Use an al-safe parts washing detergent. If you lived in Canada I could refer you to any of our branches where you could pick some up.
