Doesnt do it all the time and hitting more bumps wont help. I checked the wires under the motor, well what I could reach but didnt find anything that looked worn. I checked wires at left side cowl vents, tail light wires, wires at hood hinges, wires at handle bars but really the wires look great, not even any wear through the outer tape. Sleds only got 4300 miles on it ((1998 SRX 600)). Recently I rode it, and it only really did it once and not for very long..What gives. Could I have a shorted hand warmer?? I dont use a shield heater so....The last SRX I had alos had some weird crap goin on...wow talk about a yamaha flop...Could it be the stator??

without pulling the harness all the way out from under the motor it will be tuff to determine the culprit, but with your mileage on the sled, thats the number 1 thing tolook at, but another thing that can happen is the plug wire for the tailight can rub and become grounded under the gastank area, its the feed for the tailight, unplug it and see if the light gets brightagain, if it does you know where to look.

Tank

Yup pulled wires under tank and they looked great. So the wires can chafe further up near carbs?? Just want to be sure before I start a major ((you know what)). I really appreciate the advice!! What about stator? Again thx.

did you unplug the rear tailight and see if it dims the lights still?

I wouldnt jump at the stator till the harness is ruled out under the engine, unfortunately, no way to know until you pull it completely out a good 2 foot, you have to unhook it up at hood hinge, tie a string onto plugs, relaease all the black metal fold over clamps upfront under pipes, go over torecoil and pull harness back up and out a good 2 foot, itwillexpose thepart under the negine. Tip: It is easier to do this without the airbox in the sled.

this troubleshooting is a process of elimination

Will do.

Looks like I know what Ill be doin Saturday :o| . Heck maybe Ill pull powerwasher out while I can get to the hard to reach spot now that there exposed.

Its always fun trying to find electrical gremilns :o| , hang in there youll find the problem!

Yeah for me!!!

Culprit has been found  Thanks gents for all the support. I took a minute before wrapping the wires and took a couple of pics so others could get an idea where to look if expericing same thing.
If you guys are so smart then how long would a guy ((not me of course)) take to remove a track if he used a left handed monkey wrench??
But seriously THX!!!!!!!!

My pics wont load...man not another issue...Ill figure it out and get them in..
