02 viper stock motor.....stock primary spring with 8dn20's and 4.5g rivets in both holes.....53/43 helix with green secondary spring at 70degs.....
sled pulls hard mid range but overrevs in the top end and wot at 8900rpm. i would like to try to get those rpms down.
Do i just need to add weight to the tip or is there something else i should look at ? Possibly a different primary spring or new primary bushings? or something in the secondary?
Any suggestions much appreciated.

I am by no means a clutching expert but yes if you have a overrev issue on the top you are going to want to add tip weight to the primary in order to solve it. Someone will chime in...

How is your belt, are the clutches clean, how many miles, how are the buttons and shoes?

belt is newer and clutches are super clean....buttons are new also.....shoes are visibly ok but im sure are worn as are the clutch bushings....sled has 10000kms....
I guess i should probably change these parts as they are probably holding up my clutches?

Been there before.......I never could get my stock arms loaded enough to get the R's down. In essence that is why I have 5000 miles on my Heavy Hitters. I tried all the stuff you mentioned. 53/43 etc. etc......keep in mind that final angle is less than stock which means higher R's. Stock is 47 deg. If you get into spending too much $$ to get it right...take a look on ebay. Was just there a few hours ago. There are a set of HH's for a Viper for sale. If you can get them reasonable, it would be worth it.
ask turk but i think you should try to add a washer or something on tip

I'm not a clutch man either but I think the that those aren't stock weights for a 02 viper? I think they are srx weights and if memory is right you should be under your rpm. Not sure but would check other things like springs, belt slippage ect. but than again you might have a runner. I think somethings wrong because they are heavier weights????

humm i think something is wrong you should have a under rev with that set up, if you ran the 8ek stock viper weights you would be close. I think something else is your problem. your are running abotu 4 grams more the you should need in in each weight. then stock viper weights.
Are your cam shoes worn out maybe cooked belt are you sure the weights have 4.5gram each

Yep, 8ek's are stock. I never tried any of the other Yamaha weights. Viperino are you the original owner or did someone else put those weight arms in it? Just wondering if you or someone else was trying different setups. As for the 8ek OEM weights, neither my Dad or I was able to get R's down with our stockers. I had some pretty large bolts in the tips......as large as I could find without hitting anything in the clutch.

I have a similar post going, and one suggestion was to find a primary spring with a little less finish rate.
I also have 4.5 grams in each hole, but Im running two engagement shims that Im sure are causing my over rev. But Im trying to get my engagement up and my shift out back to 8500 ish!

If the set up information is correct use a w/w/w spring and youll be very close to spot on. There is a very big margin in vipers, some of them run very strong with the single pipe, others not so strong,he has a ringer thats all, it can pull the weight if its a ringer.

Ringer...that's what mine must be. I am running almost 64 grams on my HH's. It pulls them no problem with a Predator track. Another guy I know can only run in the high 50's with his Viper with the stock track.

I got the same problem. I've actually got 5 gms in the tips and still rev to about 8900 on top. Am going to try heavy hitters. Been talking to Journeyman. Sounds like the ticket.

Thanks for the suggestions guys,
I have had my viper since new and my clutches have been cleaned by hand in the kitchen sink, i havnt got the marbles to put them in the dishwasher yet!!. I was running the stock 8ek weights loaded with 4.5 rivets in each hole and i pulled the crap out of them which is why i went to a little heavier weight in the 8dn-20s. My rollers are stock also. I was surprised when the sled pulled the 8dn-20s with no problem. It pulls hard to 8900rpms and then comes down slightly to 8800rpm and just sits there to wot. My rpm's did come down slightly(about 200rpm) from the stock 8ek weights.
I am thinking too that this sled is a runner and will likely be looking into more weight in the tip or the 'www' primary spring.
Thanks again
