:letitsnow just got a 02 sx viper what is the coolant shut off for & when to turn it on & off ?

I think you are talking about the carb coolers, is for when is very very very cold and you can switch it to ON and get some coolant on the carbs...? But I think most of us here dont really use them...personally I havent in 3 years.

Nick

Its a carberator heater. It runs warm antifreeze through the carbs to keep them from freezing up.
I dont usually turn mine on unless its 10 degrees or colder.

I will say, if it turns freely now, ocasionally turn it back and forth to keep it from sticking. If you cant turn it by hand (or with a "little" help) dont worry about it.

No kidding!!! Where is the snow? February is half over already and I have 50 miles on my sled. MN is not a good place to be this year. The weather guys have been way off too, we should have had 10 inches this week alone according to the weather reports. We got 1/4". :whine: :whine: I should have known better than to get my hopes up. Sorry lol had to vent there :o|

As far as carb heaters go, I leave them on all the time. I believe the manual says to use them below 32 degrees F.

I only use when really cold and there is a lot of snow dust. If I might be playing around in the powder it is also good idea.

You have to think ahead and turn them on before it gets hot though, I cannot turn mine by hand after the engine warms up(nice design).

The owner's manual on our 05 Mtn Viper's say to turn them on when it gets below 32F we dont turn them on till its around 5-10F.

I always kept mine on. I could only turn mine on and off when the engine was stone cold. When the engine was hot I couldn't move it, no doubt because the coolant pressurized and therefore made it difficult to turn.
If you know what the weather is going to be throughout the day then turn it on or off before you ride but as I said I always left it on, no power loss on warm days what so ever.
