YOU GUYS THINK THERE ARE ANY GAINS IN RUNNING A 01 SRX CDI ON A 2000 SRX. I HEARD YES, AND HEARD NO. I THINK THE PART NUMBER IS DEFFERENT FROM YAMAHA. WAY IN HERE GUYS. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I had the same question.... Heard different on both, What about an 01 to a 99 though? asside from the pins, I can change connectors,?? the 00 and up are supposed to have a hotter ignition..

dv8, thats a 3d ign. system to the old non 3d, you cant interchange those, the new 3d ones fires only the sparkplug when that corresponding cylinders piston is at TDC, where as the old 98-99 srx fires all 3 plugs at the same time no matter where the other 2 pistons are at in the engine, all 3 plugs fire at once.

If you look at the flywheel it has a extra TDC magnet to correspond with the firing order, this tells the cdi where the crank is. The ign. curve on the 2000 up box is better then the 98-99 one is. The 98-99 box had more race boxs available then the 2000 up did, hauck had the 2000's for a while and then had 2001's, the 2000's got to be ultra rare and then you had to update the wiring harness to a 2001 to use on the 2000 sled. Yamaha has changed the connectors every year on the 2000-02 srx.

The reason the 2000-02 is "hotter" is the 3d system, 300 watt stator, and this allows for more coil saturation for each cylinder then firing all 3 at 1 time. Yamaha engineers are pretty crafty!

I REMEMBER THERE WAS ABOUT A THREE HORSEPOWER GAIN IF YOU RAN A VMAX 800 CDI ON THE 750. BUT AGAIN DEFFERENT HARNESS, PLUGS, etc. HOW ABOUT A VIPER CDI OR A SRX 600. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Mr Viper Thanks for the info.... Is it possable to swap out ignition systems, the whole harness and stator to update toa 01/02, Or does the case of the 98/99 physically different and wont except the stator from an 02.
Reason is I could have 02 fairly cheap, to get the parts off from.
Thanks

the case is differnt, the location of the flywheel pick up is changed due to the diameter of the flywheels being differnt, the 98-99 has the large flywheel, the 2000-02 has the small flywheel. I have either welded up the bosses on the case and move the pick up or you can use the 98-99 flywheel but you have to add the TDC magnet to it to trip the ign system of the 2000-02, it involves welding and making a magnet, it does work though. I did this to a 98 srx a few years back and its still running today. The welding up the bosses on the case is by far the easiest way to do this.

good for drag racing Tony, will plug right into a 2001 srx, but on a 2000, the plugs for the cdi are differnt.

while your on the subject, is there any gains from switching between different year viper cdi's in the vipers?
