i bought a wrecked viper and i am tearing it down and i just realized it has a comet clutch on it. i know this isn't the right clutch for this sled but did comet ever make a clutch for yamahas. it seems all the comets i have ever seen have been on older arctic cats. the sled ran and drove fine with this clutch on it but i am wondering if this a clutch off an older cat or if comet made a yamaha clutch

Comet makes a replacement clutch for the Yammis. I don't think they came like that. A buddy has one on a V-Max and it works great. I also just replaced the P-85 on my Poo with a Comet 108-EXP and am happy with the swap.

20+ years ago Comet made clutches for sleds like the Vmax and SRV, but not lately. The current YXR works very well on the Yammies, so I see no need to run a Comet on the newer sleds. I ran a Comet on my 1993 Exciter SX which worked better than stock because the YXR at that time did not have the current slide tower buttons used today and it had binding issues....just like the first VMAX4's did.

Comet clutch on Exciter

My '89 Exciter has a Comet clutch on it. I believe it's a 102-C. The was one year that I believe the Exciter came stock with a Comet clutch.

Journeyman is right. The only Yamaha's ever to come with a Comet clutch on them from the factory are the 83-84 SRV and 83-91 Vmax 540. They were 102-C's and said Yamaha-Comet right on the cover. All others would be a Comet replacment clutch for the original.
