I was quite disappointed at yamaha with the whole demo days at Donahue super sports. With me being 18 they wouldnt let me ride the Apex, but yet I'm able to buy it. The Nytro wasnt what I expected. Its tippy for my tastes and was fairly quick though. I liked the Phazer but it wasnt fast enough for me. I wish I could of rode the apex rtx but Yamaha doesnt want to sell me one. I cant see dropping $10k for a sled that I have no idea on how it performs. Shit at 18 you can do quite a bit and I dont understand why they wont let you ride one even though they make you sign your life away anyways. No offense to any woman that ride sleds but I watched one hop on the apex and almost lose it after she cranked on it. I guess I would of been much happier if they let me ride the apex.

It might of been for insurance purposes, but disappointing non the less.

personally I like the nytro's better than the apex when I have done the yamaha demos.
Did you try out a vector in the apex/ rider forward chassis? I tried the vector ltx, and wish it had more power, like the nytro did. When I rode the apex last year, the power was there, but the apex chassis did not fit me as well (knees hit the gas tank/ panels weird)as the nytro did this year.
So how old did they say you needed to be to ride the apex?

Read an article the other day about the vector. It was Vector VS GSX. They were giving the vector some pretty high marks. May be a sled to take a look at. And yes that sucks you were not able to ride the apex!!!

They didnt give an age. The place was packed right after my demo on the phazer and nytro so I didnt get to ride a vector or any other model for that matter. Since it was sat they were only open till 9-12 so that kinda pissed me off too. To be honest I know I can fine tune the nytro but I was more comfortable on viper.

sounds like it was a time thing why you did not get to ride an apex.
If so....
You shouldn't be pissed at the demo crew if you did not have enough time to try more/ different sleds out.
Had I more time I would have gone back to back Apex ltx, then nytro std, then nytro rtx, then nytro XTX. But I had to squeak a vector ltx in there due to time.
Last year I tried a phazer fx and then an apex rtx. The year before that I could not get in on the yami's, so I demod an IQ600 ho, and the year before that, I demod a rs warrior. I am not pissed that I could not try a yami a couple years ago, so I tried the polaris. either way it was free.

You have to be 21 to ride an Apex. It's been that way since they started giving demo rides for those sleds. At first you even had to be 21 to ride the FX Nytro but then they changed it. I got turned down for a demo ride at West Yellowstone on the FX Nytro MTX because I wasn't 21. So I went over to the Polaris booth and rode a 800 Dragon RMK. When I was at Haydays, the minimum age to ride a FX Nytro was changed to 18. I rode one, liked the chassis but wasn't impressed with the power, it seems they're pretty detuned at Haydays on that dirt track. It's a poor excuse for a demo ride considering the track is only about 100 ft. long before a corner. Can't get the sled over 40 MPH hardly. I'm not gonna spend money on something I can't ride, it's a good thing they changed the age.

Ahhh, that makes sense. 21 is the rule for Apex machines.
I was pretty impressed with the nytros I drove 2 weekends ago, they seemed to pull a little better than my XC600sp VES. While I was not able to go top speed, I did get the xtx and rtx nytros over 90mph indicated in a short time.

What I don't get is some guys say the Nytro pulls a "little" harder than their 600's. Then other guys say that their Nytro's are a torque monster and will give 700-800's fits until 80-90 MPH.....what gives? Must be setup, rider, etc.....
I am seriously considering one for my next sled but I'm not going to spend money on a 600cc like sled. Not unless I can afford a turbo at the time.

I rode the Nytro at the demo rides and I also was a little dissapointed by the top end power. On the bottom it felt very strong. I am not sure if it was just decieving on the top half or if it was a little weak. I did ride the Apex and thought that motor was sweet. I did like the handling on the Nytro though.

As you know, the XC600sp VES is a very stout mill, esp for a 600. Mine seems to be a little more powerful than most that are almost stock motored. So when I say it pulls better than my xc, it is a good thing. My xc gives 800's a good run, and has not yet been beat by any stock 700 twin in informal lake drags.
The Tq the Nytro has is amazing, it blows the doors off the tq the vector has, and I thought that was a tq monster. Granted, I am sure that the nytro is geared down compared to the vector ltx, and the old rs warrior I tried a couple years back. So top end speed of the vector should be better thanthe nytro. Just a guess on my part since I have not either seen results of top speed between the nytro and the vector. It seems that the nytro pulls better than the 10-15 hp that is has over the vector. I am sure the nytro has a really nice tq curve and dyno rating.

If you go the mountain sled demos which is run by a different crew you can ride the Apex. I did it back in 2006 at the West Yellowstone expo when i was 16.

Yeah well needless to say I wouldnt even consider buying one if I couldnt try one first. So yamaha aint getting my 10 grand. I know some people may think I dont have the experiance but I've been riding a sled since I was 4 and riding/racing mx bikes since I was 13 or 14. And honestly I think a piped viper wouldnt be too far behind as far as performance goes. So I think thats what I'm going to do. I love my viper so I'm gonna run that until she dies and then rebuild it and just keep running it.

And yeah those xc 600s have some snap to them, I can beat a buddies studded 03 but I cant touch another buddies studded 01 with just a can. They are very competitive especially for being an older sled.

Not much different then an 18 year old trying to rent a car. I got turned down at 24 years old. Needed to be 25. I'm sure it's an insurance thing.

All of the Polaris XC's were detuned after 2001-2002. The later motors need some setup time to get them to perform.

That would explain why I can beat a 03 xc600 then
