Alright so I blew the belt on my 1999 Yamaha VMax 500. It was a Dayco USA brand. Put a Gates XTreme on. We compared the two belts. They are both the same size (44 1/4 by 3/ Yet when we put the Gates on it squeels really bad, the sled starts to roll away without someone on it, and it revs really high without getting anywhere. Yet it still feels like it has a powerband because it feels like it kicks in around 7,000 Rpms. Then you back off the throttle after it kicks in and you can cruise at about 30 mph at 5,000 Rpms... Help, some serious crap has gone wrong... Is my clutch shot?!?! Please help.

More than likely it's squealing because it's sitting too high in the secondary. You have to remove shims to make it sit in there lower.

Agreed 100% Spend the extra 10 bucks. The aftermarket belts are softer and grab early. Great for out of the hole but sacrifice in durability and longevity.

I have never had any luck running aftermarket belts on any machine.
OEM all they way.

sounds like the primary is dirty/glazed. the belt will wear in eventually but it sounds like some debris got into the primary. i would take the spring cover off and clean and inspect it. might be some worn parts that need attention.

Ok, I've decided I'm going to buy the OEM one. Where can I buy one online that ships FAST? My dealer is like 1 hour and 20 minutes away (Iowa sucks).... How much will this cost?

Alright thanks for the help guys, Some guys my dad knows thinks it might be a some sort of clutch spring... Would these symptoms be like this? My sled is like 20 mins away and I didnt look at it when I put it away..

Looked at both springs today, they are fine...Could a clutch weight break off or something? I ordered a Yamaha OEM belt also, it should be here tommorow and I'll put that on... The belt is flush with the top of the primary clutch(It also spins slowly when on a stand idleing)...We put the sled on a stand and got it go well over 90 on the speedo(You can watch the clutches go in and out, everything seems fine) but when I or someone else rides it, it only goes 35...WTF, do you all still think its the belt!??!?
