Worked on the SRX most of the day since it was really crappy for riding today.Removed the long travel shocks in the skid and put the original SRX
stock shocks back in.The sled's back end dropped nearly 2.5 inches in height.
The only thing that gave me a hassle was the transfer rods. They now slid down lower thru the sleeve(bracket that mounts to skid)Had to make up my own spacers to put on the bottom of the rods to make up the difference. With the sled hung from the ceiling, the rod extends 15/16 past the sleeve.Made up 2 spacers to fit that for now and put the bolt back on the end of both.I have about a good half inch space on the upper part of the rod for transfer. When I sit on the sled,I find that the transfer rod really doesn't move down. With 2 people on the back of the sled, the rod will move down about 1/8" only.Rear shock is setup with softer pre-load setting of about 313mm length of spring when compressed.Center shock is at 0 pre-load.Have 30mm length from thread end to plate for the limiters. So when the sled is sitting on the floor, limiters are snug, not loose.
I haven't dropped the front end yet, maybe won't.When I flipped the shock brackets and switched sides,I gained maybe 3/4 in height in the fall.I have new shock brackets,if it matters...then I will put them on and drop the front to stock height.Have FRA at sofest setting. Can feel already the difference between this set up and the long travel set-up.Took a few bumps pretty good tonite and didn't bottom out.Back end is a little stiffer now but not to bad.Did notice the sled really accelerated quicker and actually was hitting already 5 mph faster down the ditch tonite compared to yesturday night. But I couldn't keep it pinned because of the lack of daylight and trying not to smack a few of them bad bumps along the way.
With the HC's,noticed my wot rpm is pretty decent,8500-8600.Track is spinning a lot because of the freezing rain we had and the mushy snow on top. Will take sled out on river tomorrow and it will be a little cooler and do a few test runs to see how the sled does now with speed and rpm's.

Leaving the frontend up higher has a direct effect on the transfer rod gap on top.If you do not drop it down the work you have done was for nothing.Longtravel goes slower because the air gets trapped under the front of your sled and into the track.Sorry but i would wrench on young dude.

Somehow I knew you would say that bluewho.Yep I will work on that today. There is like a blizzard conditions happening outside,so not a good day to ride.

I looked around for my old transfer rods and can't find them anywhere.Must have thrown them out
.Noticed on the parts diagrams that the stock transfer rods hook up to the first hole on the rails. The longer transfer rods go thru the second hole.I also had a set of rods from my other sled, but cannot find them either.Guess I could cut the Max Perf. Rods down in length and re -tap them, but wouldn't know what length to cut the rods at,so they'll stay like this for the remainder of the season. And if I did cut them down, don't know if the adjustable nut would now be in the wrong location.Whatever.

bluewho ..you are da bomb man.Put my new front shock brackets in stock position again and dropped the front end.Dropped sled on to the floor and found things have changed already.Removed my homemade spacers on the bottom of the rods and put in 5/8 spacers. Now the damn sled tranfers.Ended up with more gap on top now, adjusted the nut down 2 lines and I now have 50/50 space on the spacers. And now the rods are moving when I sit on the seat and transfer is now working, there is movement now and the suspension is coupling now..it didn't before.THANKS BLUEWHO!!!!!
I can't explain it...but now my track seems to be easier to rotate by hand now. Before I had to really pull on the track to spin it manually, now it turns really slick and easy now.Only thing I noticed is my 2 inside rear idlers are rubbing on the track cogs to the outside and makes a noise when I spin the track. This is why I couldn't seem to centre the track properly.Going shim with 1/8" washer to push wheel in more, cut center spacer down an 1/8" and will get those 2 wheels centered in them coggs.
Sled looks mean again, like a stock car. Can't wait to test it.Still have to do another clutch change. With the HC's,4.3g seems to lite for the heel.It engages at 4500 rpm. Will add a little there.7 grams in tip seems good so far.Well back to the garage and finish things up.

I just love this little 700.Going back to stock settings really feels great and fast now. When I pin it now,the SRX just accelerates like mad...I love it.Did a few jumps with it today.4 foot drift by my house on a 45 degree angle.First time I soared up and down and was ok.Second time with more speed,I hit the drift at a wrong angle and flew up and sled started to angle down to the left.Came down on my left ski and almost flew off.Third time I hit it to fast and up I went..6 to 7 feet up and was just flying and came down on all fours perfectly.Suspension really worked good on landing,no bottoming out either.I quit this after that third time.Did I mention on the other side there really wasn't much snow, mostly ground.
The sled really snaps in the deep stuff to.Just pinned it and took turns in my back yard in 2 feet of snow.Engine sounds great, reving 8500 in them turns.Climbed up one huge drift created by a snow fence. It was about 6 feet high.Got on top of it and slowed down at the end,it was straight down...then the snow broke away and down I went.I just pinned it and started to dig myself down in this powder.Almost didn't make it out of this mess.I love this sled.
This sled rocks now and my HC's are basically dialed in now.WOT it is reving 8500 and engages about 4200-4300.From a standstill fully pinned this sled jumps and just pulls like I have never felt before.Awesome for an 8 year old sled. That triple motor is really solid.Got it up to 100 mph today on the river with about 2 to 3 inches of fresh powder. The HC's really are running good. After about a 10 mile run always pinned,I stopped to check the clutches and they are totally cool to the touch and the belt also.No heat issues here at all and DCS doesnt even come on any more.It is amazing how the clutch clamps that belt.I hardly touch the throttle and I can hear that track just spinning away.It is an instant transfer of power to the track. If I had studs, this sled would really hookup, but I don't want to run studs.
To end my little story here,I am super pleased with the power of the SRX and love the acceleration of the beast.I don't have really any areas out here were you can open it up all the way.If I get to 110 on the speedo,I am happy.IT'S JUST A LITTLE 700!!!!

stein700sx.Where exactly do you live to be exact. Are you in the town or outside of town.Still would like to meet you and ride at least once this season. If I go down the RED RIVER,is there a certain area where I could climb up the bank and get to the junction of St.Mary's Road and the road that goes East into Niverville.Just wandering. This must be somewhere between St.Adolphe and St. Agathe.I must have passed by there a few times already.

You pop out of the Red where the Rat River meets it. Come up at the bridge and travel North for about a mile untill you hit the 311 Hwy.Go half a mile or so east and you will hit the trail just after a small bridge . Brings you right into town.I will send you a PM with my phone number.

my 01 srx only has the holes for the transfer rods behind the idler wheels whereas my buddies 01 has the crossshaft and transfer rods placed in front of the idlers. Does anyone know why this is and how can I make this thing hook better?? I am spinning for 1300' on ice!! I have a set of transfer rods that I am going to try for starters just looking for additional feedback. Sorry for the hijack.

That was one of the changes between the years. Adding the transfer rods will help you a ton. Night and day difference IMO. Much more fun to ride too.
