Why does my sled (98 srx 600) take 5-7 pulls to start when I shut down and restart while riding, if it sits for a short time, like having lunch or something, then fires right up on 1 pull, thought someone mentioned on here this may be a sign of stator or something starting to go bad. Thanks for any info.
My sx did that exact thing. The stator was on its way out. After awile it took new plugs to get it going. Now with a new stator it starts on the first pull

this is common for the yammies.....both my sleds do the exact same thing....you need to hold the throttle when warm and they fire right up.....not sure why but this is normal on any 2stroke yamaha i've ever seen.

I agree. Mine does the same thing. I just open the throttle slightly off closed and it starts on 1 every time.

My srx 600 does the samething give it a little throttle and see what happens.....should start first pull...if that doesn't work then test your stator via the spec in the manual....pretty simple all you need is to ohm it....RR

x2. my SXr would get hard to start when warm.....then eventually, at the most inconvenient times possible, wouldn't start at all. that is how my last 2 stators have gone out.

Old rotary valved Doos acted this way as well. Esp the ones with no choke, only the primer. Talk about a PITA.

My old MXZ 670 did just that.

My SXR and Viper need a touch of throttle to start when warm too. I wish my wife could start the sled on her own, but she isn't strong enough to pull it over with one hand and hold the throttle at the same time. I guess it's time to get her on a four stroke with electric start.

anybody has the specs to check the stator on a 98 srx? i have one here that kept fouling plugs, could not figure what was the problem, now on the last test run we did, it died and theres no more fire, we tought the previous owner had changed the stator, (we bought it witht the fouling problem, previous owner said he changed alot of parts could not find problem) i called him and he now said he did not change it, im sure my problem is there, jsut want to test it before i buy another one.
hey turbo if you start your own thread in the SRX forum someone will help ya out...

oops sorry, on another note all the srx's i've been around also like the throttle a little bit open when you start them and theyre hot.
