Took out my '80 SS440 this afternoon (-15C) and found that it was top end limited. It topped out at 60 mph (6000 rpm). It felt normal out of the hole with good mid-range until about 50 mph. It's odd...I hit an easy 75 mph last year...until the bumps get real scarry.
The primary clutch (Comet 108C) has been rebuilt since last winter so I'm pretty sure it's free to fully compress. I'm running an el'cheapo Kimpex belt but it doesn't seem to slip. The secondary clutch spring angle set at 120º degrees.
At 60 mph, there is some amount of dead range (last 1/4) in the throttle that doesn't get any response from the engine.
Any thoughts?
