fuel gauge not working

1997 V-Max SX 700...just bought it and fuel gauge isnt working...yes it's full of fuel. Any ideas on what to heck? Is this a common problem? Sending unit perhaps?

you should check your wires that is just under the exchaust manifoil. I just got the fuel gauge and hand warmers to work again after i repaired the insulation on that wires.

I had a problem with mine, try pilling up on the float rod some times it will get lodged in the down position.

Check to see if the wire coming from the sending unit is hooked up.
If its all hooked up then check the float rod as stated above.
If thats good
Then ya might have a bad sending unit.
