I am going out to play with the wifes 96 Phazer II an I am wondering what it should run for target rpm? The sled has 5000 miles on it and the motor has real good compression.......the clutching is the only thing I have not looked at yet can someone help me out!!! I have done some research and come up with nothing!!! I want it to be stock but I would like the clutches to work as close to perfect as possible:)
What should engagement be?
What shift rpm be?
What should full shift out be?
Thanks.......RR

Well i'll tell what i know, on my 100% stock '94 PZ i have a 3,000ish engagement and a full shift out around 7,000, from what i remember you want a target rpm of about 68-7,000 on top stock.

i can't tell ya my set up as it's been a loong time since i've been in 'em(sled
don't get used a whole lot anymore),sorry i can't say more,i'd think a '96
would be the same,stock..

I took my wifes sled out for a rip today a little over 60 miles...Its a 96 phazer II Le it is stock to my knowlege....I havent been through the sled other then cleaning the clutches and rebuilding the skid....the sled engages at 3300 and it runs close to 7000 when you pin it......top end is 7300 top speed is only 65 on my gps. The speedo says about 70. My belt is slipping at wot. On one side of the clutch sleave that is black 3/4 up the sheave. Not on the other side. I was running a dayco belt that only had 400 mile on it. Oh ya, and a phazer is a fun little sled!!!

I have a yamaha belt in the garage I am going to run instead.

What do I do about the slipping?
primary spring???
Or weights?
Or just the belt?
I will open up the clutch tomorrow and post what I got!

Here a couple pics..

I'm just wondering if my clutches are not out of alignment, but wouldn't I see the belt slipping all the way up the sheave on that side if that was the case? I also noticed a very flat spot in the clutches when I am bout 70.....I can be a 3/4 throttle, pin it and it just gets louder and no mph gain just rpm.....Which makes me think that there should be some more in her if I can get the belt not to slip:) I am going out to the garage today to see what I find for components and then I will take it for a ride with the new belt....I will post back.

Riverrunner, I'm having a similar issue, I just noticed that I have a bit of a gap that has formed between my belt and movable sheave on the primary clutch. I think that the spider in my clutch has slipped a bit.....now I'm waiting for a spider tool to find out...how does your secondary clutch look?

My secondary looks great....I have no noticable slipping:) But I have yet to take her sled out to see if it is a belt thing or if I need to look into it more. Keep me updated...I am interested in what you find out. How many miles are on your sled? What kinda belt you running?

Thanks, but the last 2 dayco belts that I bought were junk..Breakin was proper and I blew one up with about 400 miles on it, with my srx and the pic at the top is a dayco with about 200miles on it, with her phazer....She doesn't like to ride over 40. I took it out and put 60miles on and it almost came apart on me!!!! It will be the last dayco belts I will ever buy!!!

Sounds like you might have an alignment issue. I don't run them on my big sleds but my old phazer was pushing close to 80hp and they worked fine for me.

No poblem just thought you might need a belt.
