93 Exciter II mileage...

I just picked up a 93 Exciter II for my kids, it runs very well, but seems to be only getting 7-8 mpg for normal riding? Is this normal for this engine??? What are others getting?

I have a 93 long track, last weekend my son ran it hard and it managed about 9 on it's odomiter. There must be a reason all the paint is rubbed off the tunnel extension!

Thanks for you reply. I am going to check out the carb settings just to make sure there correct.

Check jetting,all ranges,low,mid,top, you may be rich and can jet down,
pull carbs clean and check carb specs(jets,needles,neddles position,float)
see where your at...
