ya go for the long travel but get suspension set for her weight. that alone will make a world of difference.

Will long travel shocks bolt in without any mods needed to be done to the supension. Can the stock shocks be made into long travel shocks. Thanks for your help
those have long travel, just upgrade with some viper shocks and rebuild them to trail specs, they will bolt in.

Unless it's an xt or xtc, being a '98 vmax it should not have the long travel shocks. You can have the original shocks rebuilt for long travel. You will also need longer radius rods in the front and longer limiter straps in the back.
all 98 Vmax unless it is a sx had 11.5 in the rear and 9 in the front, the xt had steel body shcks and the xtc had alum bodys.....

another help is to buy sx/viper/srx style gold rods that run next to your main shock. the vmax models use bushings in these and they are loose from day one and get worse as time goes on. the sx style have bearings and seals in the ends. same thing goes for the shocks. the straight vmax shocks had bushings. the aluminum bodied shocks have bearings. only the rear one though. get some viper shocks, they are cheap.
chance3131 has a set of sxr long travel shocks for sale that would ride better than viper shocks. i sold them to him last year.

Shock upgrade
It is a 98 XTC and I think they are aluminum. So should I replace with Viper shocks or revalve?

Just Revalve, most likely the viper shocks will be to stiff and you will need to revalve anyway.
