I'm new to this portion of the website, but seeing that I just bought a long track....here I am!

I've got a 01' SX-R with a 141X2" with Hauck pipes....... What is a good set up for the gearing?
How will stock gearing work?
I don't ride out west at all so big climbs are not an issue.

Thanks
JQ

I take it you have 8 tooth drivers ILO the stock 9?
just the driver would change @ .2 points 1.77 stock to 1.99 with 8T
I think I have 22/41 8T @ 2.1 and it rips in the Iowa ditches

Yeah it has 8 tooth drivers in it!
stock gearing is in it now 22/39....I pick up the sled on friday so I haven't ridden it yet
He said he has a set of lower ratio gears for it that he's giving me...what the gears are... I don't know yet

That's pretty tall gearing for a 2" track. Your clutches will run a lot cooler if you run lower gearing. I had a 141x2 on my MM 700 for a few years, ran 21-40 with 8 tooth drivers. I switched to a 151x2 track this year and dropped the gearing to 19-40. Clutches never get too hot to touch and I can still see 140 km/h on the speedo.

I think with running it in MN you can get away with that gearing no problem. If you take it out west then it will be time to gear down a little.

Based on my math you'll be right around a 2.0 ratio. That will work quite nicely for you here in MN with the longer track. Good corner to corner spurt, and it will still pull a decent top speed with the tall lugs.

That gearing sounds about perfect. Im at 21/40 which is too low for trails,(Im fully shifted out hella quick), but I think it will be dead on in the Snowies.

You should ride my sled, I'm geared at 20-42. LOL. I think I went a little overboard when I dropped 5 teeth on the top gear from stock. :bump:
Im at 2.14 overall. I think 2.00 would be good for the Hills.
