When I took my sled out last weekend I heard a noise coming from around my feet. Took the chain case cover off tonight and am curious if the chain is too loose? I know there is suppose to be some slack but does this look like too much? Thanks in advance for any help

I thought it looked loose, I dont know much about whats going on in there but that just didnt look right. I'm thinking the brown crap is the result of water getting in there. Thanks

If i were you i would pull the the chain/gears out, then pull off the case and wash it out good in a parts washer or with carb cleaner, power washer,etc...

clean it up, then check bearings and replace seals..

Yikes !! Thats one crappy looking chaincase. I agree with the water/moisture theory. Was there any lubricant in there? Oh, ya way to loose too.

You might also want to check the gears for wear.

Definitely get new seals all around. Cheaper to do all of them while you have it apart. We have had poo's in our family with leaky cases that are a royal pain to have to deal with filling them back up before every ride.

Thanks for the help, I will take it apart tonight and get it cleaned up. How can I set the chain tension once I get it back together? A friend said finger tight, then back it off a quarter, will that work? Thanks again

Wow thats scary dirty!!!!!get her cleaned up throw some new seals in it.....finger tight means snug and back it off 1/4 turn.....fill it up with some synthetic gear oil or atf and check for leaks....if its good.....ride it like you stole it:)
