my freinds rev 800 had a high idle. i figured he had an air leak so i checked his sled carb boots and sure enough a large rip in carb boot beetwen carb and reed valve. Local bombardier dealer didnt have any in stock so he found a good one at a salvage sled shop. Here s the dilema hes got boysen reed valves on his set up and the used ones have the factory valves. I swaped them so that both would match. Upon inspection of the salvaged boots with swaped boyesen i noticed both valves wont close, a gap each about 1 mm or so. I figured id give it a shot and sure enough after installing everything, sled would only run on one cylinder. I put a new set of plugs but same thing. I have never experience a reed valve failure. this is new territory for me. Do the valves have to be fully closed to operate properly. i know they open when piston goes up but i figured when piston goes down pressure would close them. i know this isnt doo talk but two strokes are still two strokes.
I figured this would be a great place to try since theres alot of two strokes gurus here.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

did you try to flip the reeds over to get them to seal?

removed reeds and inspected reed cage from salvaged part. reed cage(boot) is one peice with rubber injected over everything. reed cage has rubber deformed preventing reeds from closing. ski-doo sure has some poor quality parts.
