I'm looking into studding my wifes Viper S over the summer and I'm trying to decide which would be the more effective way to go with this. We left it as is and naturally both times she's been out on it we've hit ice. I'm looking at the safety aspect as opposed to more aggressive hookup. Honestly her S with the Ripsaw/single pipe probably comes off the line harder than my triple piped Yoko/192 studs 02'. I'm convinced the Ripsaw is worlds better than that Yoko track and I guess the triples give up a little bottom end for big hp on top.
Keeping the Ripaw will require 8 tooth drivers, and a regear on top of the cost of studs, backers and front/top/rear protectors. I was thinking about selling the Ripsaw and going with a 1" Hacksaw to eliminate buying drivers, gear, chain and maybe save a little work. Ripsaw has 2300 miles on it and is in great shape. I'm thinking that by selling the Ripsaw and Buying the Hacksaw I might come out ahead of having to buy drivers, gears etc. Not sure how much performance difference the Hacksaw gives up over the Ripsaw, but we mainly ride groomed/poorly groomed trails. No deep stuff here in PA to get excited about. Any opinions on this? Which would be the better way to go?

I would go with the 9830 1" predator track...it's much more durable than the hacksaw....
Had on one on a MXZ800 w/144 picks.....8300 miles...still going strong when sold.

I second that.Go with a 1" studded track. Its works better the whole way around.

I put a ice ripper xt on mine. easy to swap, lighter than studs and you still get that awesome ripsaw feel. It's not like a studded track, but there is definitely more grab there than no studs.
A buddy of mine did a 1" hacksaw with 144 and he said that he can feel it slide in snow more than a ripsaw.
