I had my wife 2000 Phazer out this weekend. It kept giving me a a bunch of problems all week. At first it had a bad low end bogg, so I change out the plugs and it would go away then come back again. The plugs looked wet and a nice light brown color.
I then adjusted the play on the oil pump setting, and adjusted the barrel adjuster out (or Higher). The bog then when away however now when I start it cold it dosn't want to stay running unless I crack the throttle slightly??
It started this bog in the begining of the season, It went away after I took the carbs apart and cleaned them. But then resurfaced this past week. Also it seems the PTO Cylinder is making a loud clicking noise (Ticking).
Any help would be awesome, should I clean the carbs again? Does anyone have the correct oil pump play spec for this machine. Thanks for any and all help.

These engines are bullet proof, the ticking is most likely just noise from it being a two stroke.
Sometimes these carbs get gummed up (most likely pilot jet) and do exactly what you said. This can be fixed by simply just cleaning the carbs, and if you dont want to do it yourself, get a yamaha dealer to do it, and have them sync the carbs while theyre at it.
As for the oil, these motors are set to burn a lot of oil, so you can adjust it so that it doesnt burn so much. Your manual will show you how to do this. Also, if the oil pump was to fail, it would fail so tha it operates at full capacity.

Next time it bogs blip the choke see if it brings it out, what you need to do is run it through each curcit killing the motor and reading the plugs, oil pump
wont have a effect on running unless it was just dumping oil in.
if you moved the adjuster out you richend it up(more oil)spec on a 485
should be 21 to 23.
you need to see where jetting is first so you know what direction to go..

I haven't had my 99 apart since 2000 - can't remember - don't they have tiny air correction jets as well in the carb mouth? Had them on the SX-R's can't rememeber about the Phazer.
They should be cleaned - they will affect - just off the stops.
A friend of mine finally broke his engine after about 20,000 hard miles or K can't remember that either - oh oh?
