Love my SRX but would not mind those few extra inches of travel. Just broke my rear shock on the last trip so it's time to rebuild it anyhow. I was kicking around the idea of a different skid, But to be honest...I really had this one dialed in pretty good. I ride it very hard and this time the shock said it had had enough. So with Pioneers upgrade has anyone been unhappy with the results?
I DON'T want to sacrifice handling at all on the sled. I ride it on pretty flat trails and where and when I go I don't see REALLY bad trails...but sometimes they may get a bit rough so those few extra inches would be nice then!
Anyone have any input on this kit or any other rear skid upgrades to their SRX?
Thanks!

SX, SRX REAR LONG TRAVEL SUSPENSION KIT
Greatly improve the ride of your sled without affecting the handling! We take your rear shocks, install new shafts, re-valve them, and change the center shock spring. When we’re done you have the same amount of rear travel as the SX-R & SXViper. The major difference is this kit is designed with more “set-in” on the rear, keeping the rear ride height at nearly stock level when sitting on the sled. The increased travel allows us to keep the spring rates lower, while the longer travel gives the shocks more time to react. This combination gives you a better (plusher) slow speed ride, improves the ability to go through the bumps at higher speed, and increases weight transfer. Send us both of your rear shocks and we install new factory parts. We send them back with all of the necessary parts and instructions for easy installation. Specify year, model, rider weight, and riding style when sending shocks in. After-market control rods are not necessary when installing this kit.
SRX – SX Long Kit '97-'99 SX, '98-'99 SRX:...$349.00
2000-2002 SRX:.....$339.00

Greatly Debating this Topic also....... At least i'm not the only one wonderin about this set up, If someone could shine some light on this topic that would be great, I want to know if i am better off getting viper shocks and the correct transfer rods, or if i am better off sending my shocks out to get the "long travel kit" it basically would be the same thing either way right?
Go with the Pioneer kit and let them know all of the required info, you will be very happy with it. You can also upgrade to the heavier spring at the same time if your weight requires it. Just be sure to let Bruce know exactly what your looking for and he will take care of you.
You can go with Viper shocks and get the same travel, but you would still have a stock shock that is not valved to your specs.

Thanks for the post. I plan on calling Bruce tomorrow. I pulled my skid tonight and I have some problems. I need to chat with him on my small rear shock. It broke and ended up snapping the bolts of the cross-rod that has the limiter straps going around it. Also messed up my rails. I'm going to post a new thread about it and ask some opinions on what I should replace in the skid.
Sounds like you have the long travel in your SRX and/or SXR??? I'm thinking of trying it. Does it effect handling at all? Anything need to be done to the front to compensate? I don't want the sled to sit too high and lose it's cornering ability. I truly love the way an SRX handles on groomed trails.
Thanks to BTV and Gone Blue, I swapped my '01 SRX skid for a Viper skid and also have Venture radius/tie rods and Viper shocks up front. Haven't had much seat time on trail but have had it on the river. Slightly higher ride height (maybe an inch) but not much difference in handling. Still corners very flat. This may be due to the wider front end compensating for the taller ride height. I did loose a few MPH on the big end.
I'm chompin' at the bit to get it out on some rougher trails and dial it in. Will report back when that happens.

i have there kit. i did have rx1 shocks but the one isn't rebuildable, so i sent them my srx ones and they shafted them and revalved them. i like them. my hole skid will be going up for sale soon. going long track

So you had them put the long travel in your stock SRX shocks?
How did you like the ride difference?
PM me if your selling that skid. I would be interested. But I am going to do something here soon because I need to get her back on the trail!

snowdog, think about it, he had the shocks valved and set up for his weight, now unless you weigh close to his weight your better off just sending yours in for the custom set up, because either way your going to have to get it set up again, especially if you drop a couple hundred for the skid, only to find out you need to spend another 340.00 for the revalve.
Snowdog, the handling is still just as good in my opinion. I ran mine with the stock front shocks for 4 years before adding Ohlins with extensions on them up front. The Ohlins helped the front in the bumps, but on good trails you don't really notice much difference from the stock ones.

A friend of mine had one several years ago in his 1998 SRX. That with the 1.25" predator track made that thing a blast to ride. It soaked the bumps up great and transfered really well too. That year he had left the front suspension stock, but had the factory Ohlins on it. The second year a friend that rides with us bought it and he had the front suspension long traveled too. After that I never thought it cornered as well. I liked it better with long travel in the rear and stock up front. Since then my buddy at work long traveled his rear in his '98 SRX600 and also his wife's '99 SX500 and left the front alone. They both are very happy with this setup.

if i just get a set of viper rear shocks i can just bolt them in to my stock srx ???
Jeep, you would also need the longer limiter straps.

I hear you...but my skid is a train wreck right now. The bracket alone is over 100 bucks and if I replace the one rail that's 175ish...
So I have to buy something anyhow...
I planed on sending my shocks in anyhow after this last trip but as you will see in this thread, the last day I blew the skid apart.

I did find a few Viper skids for sale, But I don't think I can run my quick adjust transfer rods on a viper skid. Still wondering if a viper skid will be the same as long traveling my SRX or A SRX skid....
I know either way I need so set up the shocks for my weight etc...

This is what I think I want to try. I know I don't want to long travel the front...and to be honest, I don't even know if I really need to long travel the back after this last trip. I do not ride weekends. I roll in on Sunday and leave Friday mid day. This last trip trails were glass Tue,Wed,Thurs and Fri early AM and I was out of there. Even with a broken shock it was still fantastic riding Friday morning. I think where I would use the long travel would be here local when I am out ditch banging or drift riding....

NOPE, need different transfer rods, for the longer travel
essentially a viper skid will be very similar to the long travel setup, I think on the pioneer perf. setup, you get longer travel shocks, but they put more sit in, in the shocks, so the ride height stays the same.
did you hit something big to break it like that?mine seems to break the front torque arm every other year!so upon suggestion from pat hauck i had it pre-gusseted,welded.and its yet to break again.

No...just riding it and all of a sudden noticed I had no suspension. I have no idea how long I rode it like that because the trails were so nice. The spring for the shock was actually threaded onto one rail and sticking out. That's what I first noticed when I looked at it after I had no travel.
I'm thinking of putting a whole different skid in it now....(aftermarket)

you don't need new transfer rods, just thinner shims top and bottom. i believe they both have to be 10mm. mind had the adjustable ones already and all i did was grind the thicker one down to 10mm, i added both viper shocks and springs. i also went ahead and added the sxr limiter strap along with the ohlins extension on the front. mind still handles like it's on rails and she has over 20000km on her. my buddies 06 Apex rtx can't keep up with me in the smooth twisty trails, now in the real rough stuff he is way up ahead. it will never ride like the new suspensions but it is a lot better then stock.
