So I knew I blew apart a shock on my last day of riding on a trip last week. I took the skid out and found more damage. See pics below and descriptions...

Took a chunk out of each rail and sheered off the bolts going thru the rails into the bracket that the shock mounts to and the limiter straps go around. I'm sure I could easy out the bolts in the bracket, but the more I look at it it almost looks like something was welded to the ends that is now missing. Not quite sure what it is/was. At first I just thought the ends were chewed up around the top edges. I think I might just buy a new one. Anyone have any used parts????

UPDATE:
I just took a second look at the skid and there are 2 tabs that were still on the rails. They are what got torn off. The welds broke. Looks like they fit clean so maybe I can re-weld them. What would you guys suggest? Do you guys think I can salvage this bracket or just buy a new one. It's kinda pricey...

Right limiter strap took a beating too...

As far as the rails. The one in the lower picture should be fine, but this first one is missing the lip where the groove of the above bracket slides on to. Do you guys think if the bolt for the shock bracket (that sheered off) is tight enough will it stay in place? Looks like the rails lip help keep it from rotating. But now that I see those tabs that sheered off also support it I may be ok???
This sucks because the rails are not cheap. Anyone have a used one? (this would be the right rail if your sitting on the sled)

Here is the left rail damage:

Anyone know if the shaft in this shock can be replaced if I sent the shocks out for rebuilding?
Here was the culprit:

So if this were your sled, what would you replace or fix???

Thanks

look for a used ski doo skid. Do some searches on this swap and your homework and from what Ive read youll be very happy with results.

Been there and done that with my original skid! Put new shaft in and did it again! Got rid of the old ***-pounder skid and put a polaris edge in. Man what a different sled! It`s actually enjoyable to ride when the trails get rough now.

Seems everyone is replacing there Yami skids. I did a M-10 swap. IMHO anything but a Yamaha skid is a good replacement. Yamahas run awesome, for the most part maintenence free but there R&D in the suspension dept was always behind the compitition. Basically for what your going to spend to rebuild this one you could put something better in. Even the Viper upgrade offered by Dave M would be better than what you have now. Just remember, if you do the upgrade the bach with a long travel Viper or any other skid you have to raise the front as well.

I put an X-tra 10 with FOX shocks in my SRX, not quite an m-10 or an Edge skid, but man, what a difference!! Rides likes a Caddy compared to the Pro-Action that was in it...

put a nice used M10 in my SRX anf love it would never think of puting the stocker back in . i have a stock SRX skid if u want to make an offer let me know.

i believe i have went through 3 of those shafts now. what happens usually is the limiter strap breaks or the adjuster bolt, throws it all out of whack, the shaft shears a bolt and then busts the shock. needless to say ive done this a few times now, 3 times i changed the shaft and i fixed each one of those before replacing it. the ears all broke on mine too. right now im having trouble keeping the limiter strap bolts from shearing off, i went through 4 or 5 of those in the last month.

Hey Red hows it going if you are willing to try something find a shaft you can bolt between the rails just behind the plastic tips.Than run some limiters around the top shaft and around the new shaft.Use another brand strap or make your own.I would run 4 of these yes four.

3 times i have broke that shaft, and 4 W arms. I bleed blue but the engineers that come up with the pro action suspension should be shipped to guantanamo bay with the rest of the scumbags of this planet.

I have a polaris pro x skid in my warrior. It flat outperforms the proaction in every way. An edge skid with pss shocks or the sc10 4 would all be good cheap upgrades. Maxdlx

Well...since all I really need is the bracket...I don't want to pay much for a skid that will most likely break again...but if it gets me thru the rest of the season...I'll throw it in if it's cheap enough. Seems like everyone has this and the viper skids. I have had 4 offered to me already in various states.
PM me with what you would want for it...and if i'ts cheap enough I'll throw it in until I decide what I really want to do with it.

You guys throwing aftermarket skids in them...how are they handling with the longer travel? Can you still take turns as well? I love the handling of the SRX and mainly ride it on flat trails...and I don't want to sacrifice the handling of the sled.

Looks like repairing the bracket is not an option since you guys have repaired and still broke them.

Can anyone post what skid was the easiest to upgrade into? How much modifying is there to do? Any info is appreciated since I am really thinking of now looking into a different skid.

I have an edge skid in my srx and it was the best thing I have done to this sled! It hooks up hard now and still handles like a dream. Takes the bumps much better then it did also. I have not gone through a set of sliders yet(2 years). It just rolls much better. And took about 6 hours to do the switch. Paid 250$ for the edge skid and sold my old skid for 175$. Also fliped the brackets up front so that it sits level. Any questions just do a search of my name.

Thanks Jonny....
I will be looking it up. I have never done a swap like this and I the more I think about it the more I would like to put a different skid in it! The more info on the conversion the better...

Thanks for all the comments guys....

Hey Jonny...
Saw your thread. Nice work...
I sent you a PM...

There is a great post on hard core sledder somewhere about it. Look on the 4 stroke side of ty for kingers edge skid install. It has a link to the post. www.jbshocks.com has the measurements needed from tunnel top down and from driveshaft back. It really is pretty easy. Maxdlx
