I am thinking of using a set of 8dn-00 weights in my 01mm instead of my 8cr's (stock). This is because the stock weights have the biggest rivets on them but it will still overrev. I see that those two weights are similar in profile and that a fully loaded up 8cr weighs more than an empty 8dn-00. Then I can add some rivets to the 8dn-00 to get the rpms right.
Why shouldn't I try this? Thanks

The 8dn-00 profile ain,t even close to a 8cr. The 8cr is very aggressive & the 8dn is very flat. the 8dn is close to a 4 stroke profile & the 8cr has a steep bend to it. I would use a set of 8dn-10 or 20,s. they have a better comet/ac/polaris profile.
Hm. How else can I get the rpms down? Don't want to use a steeper helix, cause that will dust the belt when Im driving real slow, beteween trees....
Hm I have to see again how you measure of agressive it is. I guess you have to look at the upside of the weight? Not the underside?
thanks

my mm700 piped ported peak head is pullin the 8cr's pretty well. I am running the mpi roller ( I forget the exact helix...48-52) I was showing a friend that I can make long hard pulls and my clutch is maybe 90*.....still cool. you can sure tell when the weights start swingin' though.

Dn-10's and 20's make a nice mountain weight. Been running them in that application for years now. Very smooth.

What I done with with my mm to save the belts in the tight stuff was put in a pink-pink-pink spring in the primary this spring is shorter than the yellow-white-yellow spring which lowers the engagement rpm but the shift is the same. The sled didn't engage so quickly of the bottom which eliminated any belt slippage and made it much better in the light snow because it didn't spin down so easily. This is the stock spring in the 700 venture and should be easy to find one and try it. Belt wear was pretty well non existant
