I have a 2001 SRX and my mechanic told me there is antifreeze getting into the engine. One of the power valves was stuck and after rebuilding the water pump he has now told me the problem is fixed.
Just want to know if you SRX owner have ever heard of antifreeze getting into the engine through the water pump?

your supposed to have antifreeze circulating through the engine to keep it cool.... hence coolant rail just above the carbs.

I'm sure he and his mechanic means in the combustion cyl or case...
if the seal was bad sure it would be leaking somplace..

K Thanks Daman,
Just want to make sure he is not pulling my leg. $730 in labor and $460 in part is killing me!! Power Valve, Cable, Seals, sliders, belt, and much more

daman is right its cyl. or cases , and the price is probaly right if you did not wrench at all... you could have had a o ring blown and he could have fixed for $20 and fished a good story but not likely.....

If it was coming in through the water pump seal area you would have seen the antifreeze mainly in the PTO cylinder. If he pulled the engine and fixed it correctly that would have gotten pricey. As these sleds get older, I've seen quite a few of them in need of the shaft replaced from the seal area corroding.

i just had mine go bad also, however the coolant came out the relief hole on the bottom the case.i pulled the whole engine figureing it was time for a refresh anyway.after the motor was out i started to disassamble it.after i took the pump cover off i found the bolt that holds the impellar on had come out,so the impellar was floating around there.the mechanical seal then had no spring pressure and couldnt seal.moral of the story is if i had just taken the cover off to begin with and seen that i could have just replaced the impellar, bolt and cover and been riding a lot sooner.
