hey

my light came on for my D.C.S. on my viper today a few times. seemed like it was normal under 80 kph but if i went over 90 , the D.C.S. light would come on and just blink! anyone know what D.C.S. means? what would be the problem here? let me know

thanks

If you don't normally see it and you haven't changed anything, it means you have bad gas.

no i didnt see it before and i did adjust the powervalves. and if the D.C.S. light comes on it only means i got bad gas? but she ran pretty good on it and it was gas i got at the gas station and it wasnt over a day old!

bad gas completely. not power valves. gas on the coast of labrador is not 1 day old. it will run fine on bad gas but causes detonation meaning POP.

hey

ya there are issues with water i the gas here and may be a little dirty. i used to strain the gas but never done it for a while. would that light coming on cause my motor to blow?

yes!!!!!

DCS is a detonation warning only,it's tell'en ya to get off the throttle or your going to burn it down..

you need to run better gas(higher oct.)

My dcs light is normally off even with pipes. The other day after a long run on the river it blinked a few times. This was on a very warm day, about 0*c and i'm jetted fat with 170 mains and 55 pilots. The air must have been really good cause it was flying. I think it was just getting hot, and maybe a bit lean from the 5 mile run. If the air is good and the jetting a bit lean it'll be fast but the dcs will come on. At least thats my excperiance.

it will happen if they are broke .......but i know its because of detonation but many stuff could cause detonation

dcs

I had dcs problems on my last ride last year with my 02 srx and just discovered a broken power valive so myabe there is some connection to the dcs light going off.

We seem to have dcs problems all the time...even if we run 91 octane. Is it possible that its jetted too fat and causing this?

sxlover, 91 octane isnt really premium gas, 93-94 octane is the premium pumpgas. How about just using a bit of octane booster per each 91 fill up, alot of times you only need a slight increase in octane to head off detonation, try it and see, the bottles fit easily in the trunk. youll know quickly if the light stays off.

justaviper, when the light comes on, it begins to retard timing, so the sled isnt going to go as fast with the light on then with it off, theres more stages as it progresses, but taking timing out will definitely slow the sled down, thats the safety behind the whole system, to save the engine from destruction.

we've tried that too and it doesnt seem to help...when we were in bear lodge and jetted pretty close to what we were riding we didnt get the DCS light at all until the one sled melted a piston

1.) need more octane for jetting size.

2.) jetted to lean, need to richen up the needle circuit and main.

I am guessing your going off a jetting chart for altitude??

what do the pistons look like, burned off exh edge exposing the ring or just the exh side chipped off and top all dented up like a small ice pick used on it?

make sure those power valve are ajusted like they suppose to be ....they make weird stuff for detonation

It happened last year when we melted it. We were out riding Bear Lodge. Exhaust side was gone. That was caused by bad fuel. And what exactly causes detonation. Because by the altitude chart we are actually running too rich for where we are now.

before I answer your question on detonation, let me further look at your situation by asking, are you spending alot of time wide open turning in the powder off trail like in your avatar or? kinda give me a description of your ridng style and about how much time is spent at mid throttle, and wide open on average ride, thanx

edit: I have this saved as the information in it is alot better explained then me typing with 2 fingers...lol, I would still like you to describe what I asked above if you dont mind, thanx:

lately its been ridin stubble field...seems like whenever you hit around 7000-7500 sometimes even to 8000 it does it...if you pop it up to 8500 and keep it there its fine...thats pretty much the only time it happens

we have factory jetting which is 156.3 mains, 45 pilots, needle 3, fuel screw 1 7/8

also we are at about 1900 ft...and do go lower than that...it was happening tonight...14F out with carb heat on

and the factory clutching that came on the mtn vipers, not sure on what that is right now or what the altitude it is for but i will look for it...i appreciate the help
