I bought a 2002 Viper around January and it only had 231 miles on it. It now has about 1400 miles on it. When I got the sled, the carbs, pv, and other components were cleaned and greased. The sled originally used a ton of oil. Almost 3/4 of the oil tank to 1 tank of gas. I rode it for about 600 miles this way because it was subzero temps and I didn't want to screw someting up and burn it down. I have made no adjustments to the pump since my gap in the cable was set to a 20mm. Well, the last couple rides, I am hardly using any oil at all. I think it is using the correct amount because it uses a similar amount as my wive's SXR500. What could have happened? The only thing I did was secure the cable better to the side of the airbox.

mabe your cable was outa seat and when you moved it it droped back into
place, dunno weard,,but try to shoot for around 50:1 ratio,no leaner.

That's what I was thinking, but I didn't know for sure. There was a bit of tension on the cable housing the way it was ran originally, but I didn't think that would have any effect or not. I did notice that it seems to run much better now.

If there was a bit of tension on it it could have been getting pulled up
outa it's seated position some sure..

I've had that happen after having the air box out. The cable is pretty tight, if it's not routed exactly right it will pull it open a bit. It took me half a day of fouling plugs when running on the bottom end to finally realize what was going on (I'm not real bright sometimes).

What daman said, They don't use that much oil. That did that when I pulled my air box and I used alot of oil but never fouled a plug in 30# temps and more, love these yamahas.

Cable had to of pulled...I nearly sh!t when I just topped mine off and the little light went on halfway through my ride...arghhh...all is good now...

Yea and if your running a $30 a gallon syn. oil,,that hurts!!!! lol

Exactly!!...it was my first run of the year aswell...New trails too, so didn't really know where a gas station was...thank gawd we found a place for lunch that had a secret stash of oil...
I think on that particular day it was pretty cold..and I've must've pulled the oil line when I fogged it the previous year..so the cold made it hard to return...oh well..no complaints now..
