I have a 98 vmax 500 the kids ride around the place and it is driving me nuts. It will run like a top one day and then the next it will back fire and hardly make it back to the garage. I have plugged the TORS wires together and I thought that was it but now it is back firing agian and wont run. I have cleaned the carbs twice and they are spotless. This has to ba an elec. issue. Anybody no where to look or start?

Plug wires? or plug caps I should add. I've seen either of those make strange things happen if they are going south.
Check the stator. My 97 would run good all day and then NOT the next day. Checked the stator and it was toast.
Thanks, I am very suspect of the stator also, the plug wires seem fine.

if you can check the resistances cold then drive it untill it acts up then redo the measurements might point you in the right direction
