I noticed some noise/vibration and upon investigation I noticed my secondary has some rotational slop when sitting still. I wouldn't think this is normal since the jack shaft is splined. Am I on the verge of a major breakdown?
Leaving for 5 days in the UP in 5 hrs. and no time for fix before leaving, should I be babying it or is this normal? Any ideas for a quick fix to get me through? Will the clutch or jack shaft be damaged first?
Thanks,
Al

Is it rotational play on the shaft or in the chanincase? Do you have reverse?

Yes the important question is if you have reverse or not. If you have reverse then several degrees of rotation in the secondary is normal. Check your chain tension as well.

I have an 02 Viper that snapped the jack shaft off yesturday, right behind the bearing on the clutch side.No noise or vibration until about 10 min. before it came apart.Never even heard of this before.Might be something to take a look at before you go.
Mine does have a lot of miles on it though.

Made it through the weekend. Chaincase is adjusted correctly no slop there. It is rotational for sure. No reverse or e-start.
I did notice what sounded like ratcheting a couple times if I broke hard and then acceled hard, so I stopped doing that and it was ok. I am not ratcheting the track as I have extrovert drivers.
Any thoughts? Probably tear into it this weekend as my season is done for other reasons now.

Exact same thing happend to me a few weeks ago, the tensioner in my chaincase blew up. Check to make absolute sure your chain is tight, the ratcheting on hard take offs could probably be the chain skipping on the sprocket, which will also cause play in the secondary
