Could a hanging idle be a symptom of a bad crank seal ? Can you test for it by spraying starting fluid next to PTO & MAG sides of motor while its running? (A climbing idle would mean a seal leak ?)

Does it stay hanging or does it drop after a few seconds? If it stays, I think this is one way of determining a bad seal. Boy, this is becoming a daily topic with the vipers lately.

I'm curious... what kind of oil have you been running in your viper?

or blip the choke. If it comes down with a choke blip, it's not a seal. It is either pilots/fuel screws or throttle cable adjustment/idle speed setting or a combo of all 4.
Spray carb cleaner around the mag side or the pto side while engine running @ idle...if it revs up than, thats an indication the seal is bad...you can do that around your carb rack, boots & reed cage blocks...cheerssickric said:Could a hanging idle be a symptom of a bad crank seal ?
