OK...I read about porting being done and was wondering how it's actually done. My specific application is my SS440 with a single carb intake and single exhaust pipe stock set-up. Any good (& free) internet resources out there?

I seems that the only safe thing to be done is polish the intake y-pipe. Is this as simple as taking a flapper wheel and progressively using fine grit?

As for grinding the head port...is it worth messing with for the SS? I guess this applies to Exciters/Enticers.

Thx

Great question! I was going to post nearly the same question in regards to my Enticer 340 and Excel V 540 (SRV540) motors.

Two things I've noticed while the SRV540 motor was apart:

1) The intake port is "blocky" at the entrance to the cylinder, behind the reed cage. I think that if I sand blast the port walls, then apply some good quality high-temp epoxy into the edges, I could smooth the entrance into the cylinder to reduce turbulence and increase airflow. I wish I had a picture. Oh wait a minute! I do have a picture: (pre-rebuild)

I am thinking of filling in that right-hand side and LH side as well, in order to make the port more conical. It'll reduce the port volume but should boost port airflow and velocity, both essential elements to making good volumetric efficiency.

Since I've no experience with two-stroke mods, take it with a grain of salt. Drag racers have used epoxy in their intake ports on race cars for decades. It's also soft enough that if it ever pops loose, the engine just chews it up and spits it out.
