Was out on Saturday and got about as far from the truck as possible when the weld on the mounting plate to the steering post broke. I have a set of bars off of an 07 Apex I've been wanting to put on. My question is what is the best way to fix the steering post? Should I just reweld it with an extension or does it need strength added when running taller bars? Is there anything out there that replaces the stock set-up that is better? Any suggestions appreciated.

I had the same thing happen this year. I added strength. (6" if .250 wall tube) I matched the OD on the new with the ID on the old. Went up in 4" and down in 4". It adds about 1/2 lb to total weight but it will not break in that spot again.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll add the piece inside and get it long enough to use as a riser for the new bars, save the cost of a riser block.

A steering post from an 00 or later is much stronger. I had that happen on a 98 so I had it welded and gusseted, ended up breaking again and just put a newer one in. If you fix the one you have, overbuild it.
