so i tried pulling the comet 108c off my 89 exciter to give it a rebuild. yeah its not happening. i bought the comet puller, $47 not the cheapie and that clutch is not going anywhere. the puller snapped in two peices doing it by hand, not even with an impact. tried another puller with an impact and still no go. lubed the threads well, soaked it in PB blaster over night. even tried applying a little heat down the shaft, not too much as i didnt want to damage anything or ruin seals. Tapped the end of the puller with a hammer. this thing is not coming off. anyone else have problems like this? and what did you do to eventually get it off?

Thats a problem with comets, you'll either have to heat it till it comes off or you can fill the puller hole with grease, jam the puller in and tighten it, the grease will hydraulic it off. If you try the alot of heat, get it really hot, tighten the $hit out of it, then let it sit sometimes when things cool, they pop.
After you get it off, take the clutch and lap it to the crank with valve lapping compound, the problem is a mismatch in the taper angles.
